I’ve been a personal trainer since 2014, working in commercial gyms, health clubs, the NHS and now privately from my own PT studio. I have vast experience in training people for different health and fitness goals and I’m currently qualified up to a level 4 standard. Situated in Blaxton, Doncaster in a quiet suburban setting. Clients will get sessions with full commitment, and no waiting for equipm

My client sent me a picture of his weight this morning. Weighing in at 14 stone 11lbs. When he first started training with me in May 2024 he was weighing at 17stone 13lbs, that’s a loss of 3 stone 2lbs (44lbs overall).

Almost immediately I could see he was a hard worker in the gym and he lost a stone of body fat very quickly. Then when he hit around the one and a half stone fat loss he plateaued for a while, or so he thought. He continued to get stronger, build lean muscle and becoming physically fitter.

With his cardiovascular levels higher, Leigh added in some running into his training plan, however an old knee injury reoccurred. I run myself and I love it, but as I’ve always said, resistance training and steady state cardio will always be a more safe and effective way of losing weight than road running. Only experienced runners know their bodies well enough to avoid injury.

Leigh got a bit downbeat with the injury as he felt it was detrimental to further fat loss, I advised him that small adjustments in his diet would get far more quicker results than running. He’s taken it on board and in the last few months smashed through the 3 stone barrier, all whilst rehabilitating the injury, getting stronger and maintaining a social life with a few beers on a weekend. It can be done.

Legs today, 11K run yesterday.

Trying to delicately balance the two types of exercise, it’s easy for one to compromise the other.

Today I did a full leg session at the gym, first exercise of the workout being the hack squat, personally I find this exercise bloody hard but it’s so effective. For the finishing exercise I did some weighted walking lunges.

Running has been a bit low key this year, spent the first 6 months injured and haven’t been able to fit in anything significant in the latter part due to time constraints. I do have the Donny 10K booked so at least that’s something to keep training for.

I trained 6 out of 11 days on the holiday, and it was absolutely fine.

Drank every single day, danced all those same nights.

Three exercises shown here by my client Leigh.

Barbell Squats, Dumbbell Reverse Lunges and the Dumbbell Incline Chest Press.

Leigh managing PBs in both the reverse lunges and the incline chest press for reps with the 20kg and 22.5kg dumbbells respectively.

The squat set wasn’t a PB, Leigh has managed 115kg for 8 before but this was still a solid 100kg for 10.

Leigh continues to increase his strength despite his weight loss. The key to this is consistent programming, balanced nutrition and most importantly the discipline and drive of the client.

Feeling a bit bulky right now, however what is without question is that in the last 6 months I’ve built a bit of muscle tissue and I’m feeling pretty strong. I can even see my delts!

I don’t think I’ve exercised as hard in years but going on a cut is my biggest battle now, I’m always hungry it seems. I’ll rise at 6am to train legs but I can’t cut 500 cals a day.

It’s the never ending battle to be strong, fit and in shape. The one thing I know is I have the knowledge of all three and I know my body is capable of much more, even as I get older.

For the last 7 weeks I’ve been on an NHS work placement with extended hours and due to client commitments with my coaching it’s forced me to train at 7am in a morning before work.

I’ve always been a shocking morning person and always mocked when people say training in a morning is better. However I’ve been converted.

All my doubts about being weaker were proven false, as long as I get some carbs in before training I’m good to go. I’m getting to sleep earlier on a night and im extremely motivated to train. Something that lacked when I had to do it on an evening after work.

I’m loving training right now, I’m feeling strong. I’ve also managed to build up lower body exercises after injury and have even managed some short runs alongside weights.

AM training is something that I’m definitely gonna keep going after this placement ends.

Here are some videos and pictures from this week’s training.
