Waynes World 3 🌎

It’s that time for my bi-weekly recommendations. My last post had a theme of happiness. This time to link in with world earth day there is a mindfulness theme.

1 - my exercise tip is encourage mindfulness when working out. Yoga 🧘‍♂️ and Martial Arts 🥋 is a great way to feel you body and be present. But being mindful when lifting weights could be the game changer for creating better activation of the muscle and therefore superior gains.

2 - Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof ❄️ is a reality TV show on BBC1 with a difference. I’m a big advocate of cold showers. Like a form of meditation it brings you into the now and creates a stillness and alertness that can’t be beat.

3 - Sleep Smarter 💤 is an awesome book by Shawn Stevenson. Whilst we all focus on exercising and eating well, sleep is the secret weapon that will unlock your true potential when it comes to health and well-being. It has some Fantastic tips for improving your sleep quality supported by the science of how this impacts your mind, body and soul

4 - Looking for somewhere to go? Head to the woods. It’s bluebell season! Reconnect with nature, the earth and bring you presence to the present.

Easter 5k 🥚 🏃‍♂️

When you put in the time and effort on a clearly defined goal then the results will come.

Nathan had never run before and wanted to complete a 5k race. He started training 7 weeks ago and could only manage a couple of minutes at a time. When I told him I had found a race Easter weekend he was a little apprehensive that it was to soon.

So we waited a few weeks before booking. Only in England can 7 weeks seem like 4 seasons 😆 we ran through rain 🌧 , snow ❄️ cold weather and scorching hot days 🥵

Yesterday he received his medal 🏅 with a beaming smile having completed his first ever 5k in just over 33mins!!!!

So proud of the commitment and dedication shown by him to realise his goal. Easter eggs alround

Tough mudder preparation begins 💪

After finding out the wife has booked me in for a 15k in May I thought it best I start training for it.

Introduced some functional training into program and enjoyed swinging around on the monkey bars.

This was a section from todays training it is a great exercise working in to planes of motion working both the upper and lower body with lots of core activation to stabilise through the exercise.

Add it to your session double kettlebell held in rack position. Shoulder press one bell and lunge with the same leg. Repeat on the other side. Aim for 3 sets of 16-20reps.

Waynes World

A lot of us turn to social media for inspiration. This is an idea I’m borrowing from a fellow trainer out there .gandolfi she started a weekly post where she would recommend what she has been consuming. When you are following like minded people it is always great to know what they are watching, reading listening to as the chances are you may like it to.

I will do a biweekly dip into what I’m consuming. Hopefully something will resonate with you. So let’s dive into my first recommendation.

1. The great outdoors - First up is my top recommendation for fitness. I am sure you have all noticed the great change in the weather. So embrace it, lace up your trainers and get walking, jogging whatever. Just enjoy it. Fresh air, bit of vitamin d and we are all skipping along like Marry Poppins. Not only that but some sun exposure will also ensure we get a good nights sleep.

2. Who doesn’t love a good podcast. There are so many to choose from though. So here is one I’m going to recommend to you ‘Mind Pump’ the guys on here have great banter and are super knowledgeable on fitness. This is a great episode on the age old super fight dumbbells vs barbells.

3. I have just finished to audible version of ‘Will’ and have to say I really enjoyed it. Now I like Will, how not my fav actor or rapper (sorry 😉) but I loved this. He has bared his soul and not been afraid to expose his flaws demons along the way. He is open and honest about many aspects of his life and how he has dealt with them. The last two chapters in particular I found very moving for different reasons. I would also go for the audible copy of book just because a) Will reads it himself, b) he adds his personality to the experience and raps, c) there is some great music in it.

Until next time l, enjoy!

Commitment is showing up when dealt the opportunity to use an excuse.

Starting a habit is easy, maintaining it is harder. Once that initial enthusiasm wanes it can be easy for us to look for excuses not to stick to it.

So when life throws you an excuse not to think of it as a game. No one wants to lose a game. Find a way not to let fate win.

Left your gym shorts in the hotel, no problem. My workout can be trendy not me 🤣

The best way to avoid obstacles like this… be prepared!!!!

What’s on your bookshelf?

Saw a great post for by and thought I would share my current reads/listens.

I love a book and have 3 on the go. All very different but all equally as enlightening for different reasons.

1. Gong Sau Wong - a tribute to Wong Shun Leung
2. Will - Will Smiths autobiography
3. Atomic Habits - the definitive guide to habits.

I love a proper book but in the modern world you cannot ignore the convince of kindles and audio books. Also it is not encouraged to read whilst driving.

What’s your preference?
