The HY Athletic Club's Masters team ventured to Lewes to compete in the 2nd Sussex Masters match. First up on the track was the mile, for the V35 women's A string Carly Hopkins came 3rd in 6:07.8, Sonnii Pine finished in 6:43.3 in 1st for the B string and Mel Irwin ran 7:33.5 in the V50 age group. The men were next, David Holland ran a speedy time in the A string to finish 5th in 5:12.6 with Mark Wilson in the B string finishing in 3rd in 6:47.4. In the 100m V35 Carly Hopkins ran 15.8s to finish 2nd and Mel Irwin ran 18.8s to finish 3rd V50. Todd Fitz-Hugh ran 13.1s to finish 3rd in the V35 A string and Mark Wilson was 5th for the B in 15.7s. David ran 400m in 61.3 to finish 5th with Todd running 62.1 to finish 1st for the B string V35, in the ladies race Carly Hopkins ran 68.8 to finish 1st in the V35 A race.
In the field events Matthew Harmer won the men's v35 hammer with a throw of 20.14m, Jayne Baldock and Mel Irwin matched this win for the women's V35 and V50 categories, Jayne threw an impressive 30.43m, Mel threw 21.52 with Jenna Harmer throwing 28.37m.
In his 1st high jump competition Todd successfully cleared 1.40m to finish 2nd in the V35 men's, Sonnii Pine cleared 1.20m to finish 2nd in the ladies competition and Mel Irwin finished 2nd with 0.9m. Mel leapt 5.44m in the triple jump to finish 1st V50, with Matt jumping 7.95m in the V35 men's competition to come 4th. In this match the women threw the shot with Jayne clinching a 2nd 1st place, throwing 7.56m and Mel threw 5.92m to finish in 2nd . The men threw the javelin and Todd scoring for the V35s threw 22.95m to come 1st and for the V60 Martin Fletcher threw 11.31m finishing in 6th place.
The last individual race on the track was the women's 3000m, 7.5 laps of the track. For the V35 A string Carly Hopkins finish in 12:27.5 to come 3rd and Sonnii Pine finish 1st for the B string in 13:33.9. The final event of this match was the 4 x 100m relay, the men's race was first up with David, Mark, Matt and Todd and in a very close race just claimed the victory in 55.2s, next up was the ladies race with Mel, Carly, Jenna and Sonnii matching the men's position to finish 1st in 67.8s.
