It's been lovely to see so many of you enjoying the water over the weekend! From instructor-led sessions to hires, there has been plenty of laughter, smiles and cooling off in the river.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us—we are looking forward to even more fun on the water this week!

Unfortunately, our Tonbridge site remains closed due to blue-green algae. However, our Bodiam site is open every day for hires, instructor-led sessions, archery and axe throwing.

We hope to see you on the water soon!

Back in May, Katie Price and her daughter Princess Andre stayed in one of the Shepherd’s Huts on the site where we are based as part of the filming for The Princess Diaries.

During their stay, they came down to EpicLife to hire a canoe, where our Holiday Club Manager and Instructor, Teresa, gave them their safety briefing before helping them get out on the water.

The episode is now airing on ITV2 and is also available to watch on ITVX. If you spot our beautiful Bodiam location, let us know!

Important Update – Tonbridge Site

Unfortunately, blue-green algae has been identified in the River Medway, currently in the Tonbridge area near the flood barrier.

As the river is flowing downstream, we cannot guarantee that the algae will not move further along the river.

Following the recent update from Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, and with the safety of our customers and staff as our highest priority, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend all operations at our Tonbridge site until the algae has cleared and it is safe to return to the water.

If you have a booking with us at Tonbridge, a member of our team will be in contact with you as soon as possible to discuss your options.

Our Bodiam site remains fully open, and bookings for paddleboarding, kayaking, archery and axe throwing are continuing as normal.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as soon as we have more information.

⚠️ Blue-Green Algae Confirmed in the River Medway, Haysden Water and Barden Lake ⚠️

The Environment Agency has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae in the River Medway in Tonbridge. We have also confirmed blue-green algae at Haysden Water in Haysden Country Park and Barden Lake.

Blue-green algae occurs naturally and blooms most years during warm, dry weather. While it is not always toxic, bloom and scum-forming algae can produce toxins that are harmful to people and animals.

🚫 Avoid contact with the water
🚫 Do not swim or paddle
🚫 Do not allow dogs to enter or drink from the water

Signage has been installed, and local water users have been advised.

Blue-green algae can appear as: 👉 Green or blue-green scum on the surface
👉 Green-tinged or cloudy water
👉 An oily slick
👉 Paint-like streaks floating on the water

Even brief contact can cause illness. In people, symptoms may include: 👉 Skin rashes
👉 Eye, nose or throat irritation
👉 Headaches or dizziness
👉 Stomach pain, vomiting or diarrhoea

🐕 For dogs and other animals, exposure can be extremely serious and may be fatal. Symptoms can include: 👉 Vomiting
👉 Excessive drooling
👉 Lethargy
👉 Breathing difficulties
👉 Staggering or loss of coordination
👉 Seizures or collapse

If you, your child or your pet develop symptoms after contact with the water, seek medical or veterinary advice immediately.

We are working closely with the Environment Agency and will continue to monitor conditions. Updates will be shared through our social media channels so like and share this post to help spread the word.

Please take care and help us keep family, friends and pets safe by staying out of affected waters. 💙💧

What a fun evening we had last night with our corporate group of junior doctors!

The teams took on a range of fun challenges using kayaks, paddleboards and our MegaSUP, putting their teamwork, communication and paddling skills to the test.

There was plenty of laughter, a bit of healthy competition and, of course, lots of people ending up in the water!

A fantastic evening with a great group—we hope you all had as much fun as we did.

Looking for a unique team-building activity? We would love to welcome your group to EpicLife.

Why Moving Around on Your Paddleboard is Good for You

Whenever we are coaching a session or chatting to customers about moving around on the board, we often get the same look… "Seriously? Are you trying to make me fall in?"
The short answer is... maybe! But if you do, that's all part of learning and having fun on the water.

So why do we encourage moving around the board? There are lots of benefits.

One of the biggest reasons is comfort. Do you ever get cramp in your feet or pins and needles while paddleboarding? This is really common because many paddlers instinctively grip the board with their toes to feel more stable. By learning to move your feet around the board, you relax, improve your balance and become much more comfortable and confident.

Moving around the board, also improves your paddling technique. Stepping further back lifts the nose of the board out of the water, reducing drag and making it much easier to turn. Moving slightly forwards helps engage the nose of the board, giving you more control when paddling into wind or choppy water.

The more comfortable you become moving your feet, the more control you will have over your board in all conditions.

So next time you are out on the water, spend a few minutes just playing. Be a kid again! Walk up and down your board, try a few gentle jumps, stand on one leg, step back towards the tail and see how easily your board turns. Then challenge yourself to move towards the front and see what difference it makes.

Yes, you might end up getting wet... but that's all part of the fun of paddleboarding!

If you would like to build your confidence and improve your footwork, why not join us this Thursday from 6:30pm–8:30pm in Tonbridge? We will be focusing on footwork, board control and fun skills to help you become a more confident paddler. The session is suitable for all abilities.

We look forward to seeing you playing on the water!

The children had an action-packed morning learning new paddleboarding skills, building paddleboard rafts, practising self-rescues and, of course, enjoying plenty of games, laughter and splashing on the water!

It was fantastic to see everyone's confidence and skills growing while having so much fun.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us – we can't wait to see you again at our next Kids Holiday Paddle Club on Monday 3rd August 9am-12pm.

If your child loves being on the water, this is the perfect way to spend a summer morning, building confidence, learning new skills and making new friends.
