Harwich Town Sailing Club has been in existence for over 50 years, and currently has over 350 members. The clubhouse and boat park are situated on the North East Essex coast, overlooking Harwich Harbour, which forms the confluence of the Stour and Orwell estuaries. HTSC offers sailing in the sheltered waters of the harbour and estuaries, yet the 'open' water of the Pennyhole (Dovercourt) Bay and t
he beautiful Walton Backwaters are easily accessible. We are a warm, friendly sailing club committed to promoting dinghy sailing as an all-round family activity in all its forms, from regular club racing, to pottering about in and around the harbour area. We actively encourage youth sailing, and run a 'Cadet Week' each year to help the youngsters improve their skills. Over the years, the club has helped many sailors become National, European and even World champions in their class. We are fortunate to have a large dinghy park for members to keep their boats with easy access to the beach. Launching and recovery is possible approximately 3.5 hours either side of high tide, giving a wide sailing window. The Club also has a number of single handed and double handed dinghies available for hire at very low rates. Apart from the racing, the sailing schedule is sprinkled with beach days and barbecues, along with day cruises just for fun along the picturesque Stour and Orwell estuaries or Walton Backwaters. In addition, there is a varied social calendar covering all sorts of events, from themed dinner and party nights, to quizzes. HTSC is a club run by the members for the members. We do not employ professional staff, so we are able to keep our membership and boat park fees at a low level. We actively encourage anyone to lend a hand in various ways, be it manning the bar or helping out in the kitchen. Don't worry if you've not had any experience, we are more than happy to show you the ropes. If you decide that you would like to join us, we hope you will enjoy our busy programme of sailing and social events. As with most things in life, the more you put in, the more you will get out of the Club. If you know an existing member, please ask them to propose you. A committee member is required to second you. Don't worry if you don't know anyone yet, simply come along to the clubhouse on a Wednesday or or Friday evening, after 9.00pm, or at any time when racing is on, and introduce yourself. If you ask to speak to a member of the general committee, they will be happy to have a chat with you.
