🏏 U11 Sunday Round-Up
It was a busy Sunday as both of our U11 teams returned to league action. The Durham Cricket League (DCL) side hosted Ryhope Maroon at home, while the North Yorkshire & South Durham (NYSD) team traveled away to Norton.
Here is how the action unfolded:
🏡 DCL Team vs. Ryhope Maroon (Home)
A Tough Day at the Office
It proved to be a challenging day for the DCL team as they came up against a highly skilled, well-rounded Ryhope side.
The Innings: After losing the toss, Seaton were put into bat. Runs were incredibly hard to come by against some top-tier bowling. However, showing great resilience, Seaton toiled hard and only lost 6 wickets—a massive positive given the quality of the opposition's attack.
The Fightback: Heading out to bowl, the team dug deep and battled hard to take 4 wickets. F. Stuart was the pick of the bowlers, claiming a fantastic double-wicket scalp in his very first over. B. Playle and H. Atkinson also bowled beautifully, picking up a wicket apiece.
The Takeaway: While this was undoubtedly the team's toughest test yet, they came through it with heads held high. The valuable experience gained against this calibre of opposition will only fast-track their development.
🚌 NYSD Team vs. Norton (Away)
Clinical Seaton Secure a 25-Run Victory!
The NYSD team headed to Norton looking to maintain their momentum and bring home another positive result.
Setting the Target: After losing the toss and being put in to bat, the pre-game message was clear: respect the good balls and punish the loose ones. Seaton’s openers looked defiant against a strong Norton attack, making them wait until the 6th over for a breakthrough. R. Braithwaite continued his superb form, hitting 14 runs (including two boundaries), well-supported by J. Wilson with a solid 7. The middle and lower order valued their wickets and ran aggressively, steering Seaton to a competitive 78-2.
A Dream Start with the Ball: Defending 78, Seaton wanted an early breakthrough—and J. Hall delivered in spectacular fashion. He struck with his very first ball, took another with his second, and completed a sensational hat-trick! Hall was unplayable, finishing with incredible figures of 4 wickets for 12 runs.
Sharp in the Field: Seaton kept the pressure piled high. H. Shepherd fired in a brilliant throw to claim a sharp run-out. As Norton tried to accelerate, Seaton squeezed the run rate. Q. Horwood took a superb high catch for a caught-and-bowled, and A. Shann deceived the batter with a ripping delivery, allowing R. Pearson to claim his first-ever stumping.
Thanks to a complete team performance, Seaton ran out comfortable winners by 25 runs!
🌟 Coach's Verdict
The development across both squads is there for all to see. Whether it’s sharp fielding, disciplined bowling, or intelligent batting, these small, positive moments are having a massive impact on our game.
Well done to all the players today! 👏👏👏
