πŸ’‘ Clinicians must move beyond solely addressing frozen Shoulder as a "local" pathology. Modern research indicates that frozen Shoulder is a complex pathology involving an inflammatory phase followed by a fibrotic shift, fueled by metabolic, inflammatory, neuroendocrine, and psychological factors.

πŸ‘‰πŸ» This is from the new paper "Beyond the capsule: an integrated perspective on the wide world of frozen shoulder. A collaborative viewpoint" by Brindisino et al 2026

Plyometrics are characterised by ground contact times (GCTs) of less than 250 milliseconds (James et al., 2023).

This is where objective performance testing can provide valuable insights to guide training, rehabilitation and performance enhancement.

In the example below, the hop test demonstrates a ground contact time of 259ms. Technically, this is too slow to be classified as a true plyometric action.

However, when we look at the Countermovement Jump (CMJ), we can see that the athlete has good lower-body power.
So, what's the missing piece?

The ability to rapidly express that force. This may indicate a need to improve tendon stiffness, reactive strength and stretch-shortening cycle efficiency through targeted plyometric and strength training.

Without testing, it's easy to assume an athlete simply needs to "get stronger". The data tells a different story and helps direct training towards what will have the greatest impact.

Whether you're returning from injury, looking to improve performance, or wanting to better understand your strengths and weaknesses, objective testing can help take the guesswork out of training.

As the saying goes:
"What gets measured gets managed."
And if you aren't measuring, you're guessing.

Why is it easier to believe something negative about our body… than something positive? πŸ€”

β€œI’ve got wear and tear.”
β€œMy back is damaged.”
β€œMy joints crack, so something must be wrong.”
β€œIf it’s torn, it needs surgery.”

These beliefs are REALLY common... but they’re not always true.

Research consistently shows that people are far more likely to accept negative information about pain and injury than positive or reassuring information.

The problem is:
πŸ‘‰ fear changes behaviour.

People stop moving.
Stop exercising.
Avoid activities.
Lose confidence in their body.

But here’s what the evidence actually shows πŸ‘‡

βœ… Joint noises and creaking are extremely common and usually NOT a sign of damage
βœ… Many MRI β€œabnormalities” are found in pain-free people
βœ… Exercise is one of the best treatments for osteoarthritis and persistent low back pain
βœ… Many tendon, meniscus and rotator cuff tears can improve significantly with the right rehabilitation
βœ… Pain does NOT always equal harm

That doesn’t mean pain isn’t real.
It absolutely is.

But understanding pain properly and rebuilding confidence in movement is often a huge part of recovery.

At Rehab Solutions North East, we focus on:
πŸ”Ή Evidence-based rehabilitation
πŸ”Ή Strength & movement
πŸ”Ή Building confidence
πŸ”Ή Helping you understand your pain
πŸ”Ή Returning to the things you enjoy safely

The club is looking to build on the progress of the last few years, more specifically last season, as we look towards an exciting 2026/27 season.

Next season, all three teams will be in very competitive fixtures.

β–ͺ️ 1st XV - North East Counties 1
β–ͺ️ 2nd XV - North East Counties 2 South
β–ͺ️ 3rd XV - Candy League (Structure TBC)

As a club we pride ourselves on producing and honing our own homegrown talent, so if you're one of our players who've left or took a break from the sport, but are considering returning to the club or to the sport, then contact someone at the club. Whatever your needs or wants from a return, we will be able to accommodate that. Whether it's highly competitive first team rugby, competitive but less demanding second team rugby or the competitive-social fusion of the third team - let's talk!

If you're looking to move to an ambitious club who's teams want to be competing at the top end of all of their leagues this season, then give us some consideration.

Bit of a different take on this, but if you are looking for a club locally and not drawn to any in particular, chose your most local club and go and make a difference. There are some fantastic clubs in the North East which are struggling and could do with an influx of players and volunteers. Go to your local club!

If you're interested in coming to Peterlee & Horden and continuing our fantastic recent progress, then please get in touch. Either message our page or contact someone at the club.

Hip or knee osteoarthritis doesn’t automatically mean surgery πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ

National guidelines (NICE) recommend conservative management (non-surgical) including: physiotherapy, exercise, weight management and education as the first-line treatment for hip and knee osteoarthritis.

The right rehab approach can help:
βœ… Reduce pain and stiffness
βœ… Improve strength and mobility
βœ… Improve confidence moving
βœ… Keep you active for longer
βœ… Improve overall quality of life

One of the biggest myths around osteoarthritis is: β€œExercise will wear the joint out more.”

In reality, appropriate exercise is one of the most effective things we can do to support joint health, function and long-term outcomes. Instead of "wear and tear" we should be thinking about "wear and repair".

At Rehab Solutions North East, we focus on creating personalised rehab plans based around:
πŸ”Ή Strength & movement
πŸ”Ή Activity modification
πŸ”Ή Pain management strategies
πŸ”Ή Building confidence and function
πŸ”Ή Helping you stay active and independent

With a background in physiotherapy, strength & conditioning and personal training, we can also help support weight management, exercise progression and general lifestyle habits which can have a huge impact on joint pain and long-term health.

If hip or knee pain is affecting your walking, gym training, work or everyday life, feel free to get in touch.

Rotator cuff tear diagnosed?
Physiotherapy should usually be the first step, not rushing straight to surgery πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ

Research and national guidelines (NICE & BESS) recommend a structured physiotherapy programme as the first-line treatment for many rotator cuff tears.

The right rehab can help:
βœ… Reduce pain
βœ… Improve movement
βœ… Rebuild strength
βœ… Improve shoulder control
βœ… Return to gym, work and sport confidently

Many people improve significantly with guided rehabilitation alone.

At Rehab Solutions North East, we focus on:
πŸ”Ή Thorough assessment
πŸ”Ή Individual rehab planning
πŸ”Ή Strength-based rehabilitation
πŸ”Ή Progressive return to activity
πŸ”Ή Supporting you through every stage of recovery

If you’re struggling with ongoing shoulder pain, weakness, or have recently been told you have a rotator cuff tear, feel free to get in touch.
