Our over 60’s travelled today to Middleton Wanderers in the regional final of the WFA National Cup. In the previous round Middleton had beaten our old foes Leggy Mambos 2-0 so weren’t to be taken lightly. A very tight first 15 minutes where we dominated possession and chances but no goals. A foul on the edge of the box whilst Patto was shooting gave us a DOGSO and after having to have the penalty re taken , Stu Butler finished with aplomb. We scored again right on the stroke of half time to give the score a more realistic reflection of the game.
Second half Deca scored more or less straight after the break, a fourth quickly followed from Garsty. Then a fifth from Kenny and a sixth from Westy for the game to finish 6-0. A disciplined performance with clinical finishing second half sees us progress to the National finals with ten other teams from around the country in Nottingham on the 5th May
Squad : Router, Stu B, Garsty , Peter L, Patto, Scotty, Kenny, Deca and Westy.
Well done lads 👏⚽️ and thanks to Middleton Wanderers for their hospitality post game.

Congratulations to our Over 50’s and 60’s today who both won their respective tournaments today for the Durham FA Walking Football Cup. Both teams now progress to the regional finals end of September. Well done lads 👏⚽️

Today’s game v Chadderton in the WFA National cup was a game that the lads dominated from start to finish. An early goal from Stu Hope set the tone , he then followed this up with a further two goals before half time. Simon Hall in goal had very little to do in that first half as the team collectively controlled possession. The second half was a repeat pretty much of the first apart from a sin bin for Mick Bee but Stu added another three excellent goals as the game finished 6-0. Thanks to Chadderton for the game and we now look forward to round 4 v Leggy Mambos at Barnsley

Apologies for lack of recent updates !

We recently saw the conclusion of the Durham FA leagues for our 50’s and 60’s

Starting with the 60’s , heartache for the second year running saw us losing out (again) on goal difference at the top of the league , this time to Peterlee . Congratulations to Peterlee on what was a close run competition , we’ll look back on our two games against them having led both times but failing to hold on to those leads. Nevertheless a brilliant effort from all the squad

Better news though for our 50’s who won the league by three points from Newcastle Benfield , we finished a full 12 points ahead of the team in third place, an outstanding season from all the squad.
As a result of winning the league the team now go on to the National finals to be played in Birmingham later this month.

Heartache again in Portugal
Our trip now come to end and what a brilliant trip it was for all the players and supporters that travelled with us.

60’s
Day 1 had us finishing 3rd in our group of 8 teams with 4 wins , a draw and 2 defeats. We therefore qualified for the main competition on Day 2. We started with two draws but two injuries cost us in our last two games and we exited the competition. Nevertheless a really good effort from all players.
Squad - Ian Hodgson, Bob Raine, Mick Harrison , Dave Pattison, Derrick Draper, Keith Addison, Paul Garstang , Dave Boagey, Stu Butler and David Scott

50’s
Day 1 the lads ended the day 4th in a group of 10 meaning they would play SC Farense who had won the other group. A very close and sometimes edgy game ended with a 2-1 win for us , very good result against a good team.
In the semi final we met CD Marbella. They were a team that moved the ball quickly but the lads adapted well and after being pegged back at 1-1 we scored the second killer goal to win the game.
This put us in to our second final in two years , this time against Port Trini Jersey. A tight affair but a lovely move finished with Scott slotting home to put us ahead. Peter pulled a great save off to maintain the lead , but with less than a minute left a ricochet fell kindly for their striker who levelled the game. Then went to three sudden death penalties, our first was well saved by their keeper and we ended up losing 3-2. An unbelievable effort again from our 50’s who deserved better

A sad note to end on, Gerry Butler , a player with Oriam Walking Football , took ill on the first day and passed away. Our thoughts are with Gerry’s family, friends and teammates for their loss
