Amelia Wilbourn - Balanced Awareness for Horse and Rider

Amelia Wilbourn - Balanced Awareness for Horse and Rider A unique opportunity for riders of all levels to develop their skills. The trotting simulator with 3 speeds and the canter/gallop with 5 speeds.

My Mechanical Horses are in a purpose built workshop enabling riders of all abilities to develop their position. "Sir Trotalot" helps riders to develop both sitting and rising trot. "Gallopy" helps riders develop their canter seat, light seat and jumping position. Posture assessments both on and off horse with the help of mirrors, Pilates exercises, bands and weights allow riders to know how to make long lasting changes.

An interesting article showing how foot balance and placement can affect, or be affected by our own individual patterns of movement.
As a rider do you have one foot that turns out/draws up/swings back/swings forward/is painful?
It may not be as simple as just correcting that foot as the source of the problem may be coming from elsewhere in your body.
I like to assess a rider on the horse and then do some off horse assessments to help figure out you own individual patterns of movement and exercises to help you understand and to improve you posture.

ARE YOU STANDING EVENLY?

This was a force plate output from a clinic last week. The rider was asked to stand evenly, and when they confirmed they were standing evenly we recorded data.

We always see differences between left and right (sidedness) when standing, seated and rotating, but what is interesting here is the position of the right foot (rotation), relative to the left. This was what felt “equal” to the rider when standing on a solid platform.

Whilst we can’t explicitly determine a relationship, on the horse, the rider shifted their seat to the left (no saddle slip left or right), and rotated to the right. Their right foot was rotated outwards, and right knee drawing up with the right thigh gripping. The upper body had a concavity of the right trunk (collapse) and rotation to the right.

An interesting example of what can be seen off-horse, and how it “may” influence riding position. Reinforcing the importance of “off horse assessment” and exercise to improve riding biomechanics, and to understand the complex interactions between the rider-horse-saddle.

How many people see one foot/knee externally rotating when riding (coupled with the other foot / heel being pushed down or braced)?
