I Want to Ride My Bike

so..just who is Dave Burns

My motto in life has always been to take everything i do in my professional life seriously. Always going above and beyond to deliver what ever i have set out to do. I don’t, however, take myself too seriously, life’s too short for all that kerfuffle x

Anyway… i started cycling young and never really looked back :-)… except over both shoulders to make sure the coast was

clear, obvs

In my mid teens i thought it would be a rather splendid idea to cycle to Lands End from my mum and dads in Harrogate… :-)

Then, after 30+ years of work, work and just a bit more work (that’s what the Hospitality Industry does to you) and the passing of my father and a return to Harrogate after nigh on 13 wonderful years in Newcastle, in 2000, did my love affair with cycling begin all over. I ran my own restaurant for nearly 15 years in HG1 (2002-2016) and in that time i met and married my gorgeous wife, Joanne, had 2 wonderful daughters Molly and Maisie and actually managed to enjoy more and more cycling. Then i bumped into Mr Guy Kesteven and my bike testing for the national publications began…

2014 was probably my crowning glory in my life of cycling when the organizers of the ASO Tour de France came to my little restaurant for dinner when they arrived in the UK for the Yorkshire Grand Depart…

Having just had the most surreal night of my life i then spent “that” wonderful saturday on the finishing line where i bumped into …

Messrs Kittel, Prince William, Harry and Kate :-)

since then i’ve done the 3 peaks Cyclocross twice, with a last personal best of 4hours 44minutes…sub 4.5 this year me thinks

Another proud moment in my life, well there were two of them, getting Molly riding on 2 wheels by age 2yrs and Maisie going solo when she was nearly 3yrs old … “management” has a giggle with us too, sometimes

So my aim is to get similar minded folk out on their bikes, to have fun, stay fit, be safe and simply have a ball

So what’s not to love … i want to ride my bike…

do you?

fab day in the sunshine🌞

6 magic hours, 7 new riders 👍

how does that work?

well little Gabriel age 3 came to see me with dad Chris and mummy Jay age 38 yrs young

38 years and never been on a bike 😎

Gabe was up and riding in no time at all then mum dropped the bombshell...

"Do you do adult lessons? "

" yes" i replied

"Right now...follow me"

long story short, mum was riding a bike in about 20 minutes and by the end of Gabriel's Magic Hour was setting off on her own and even doing gears👊

awesome work mum and Gabe, well you smashed it sunshine👏👏

was wonderful watching them ALL ride round the playground together ❤🥰

big heads...

I've always been blessed with a big noggin and since growing my barnet none of my old large cycling helmets fit any more 🤦

so back in January I bought this Giro Source 59-63 with MIPS and although a better fit still didn't feel/sit right

comes with a detachable/ moving peak

never crashed as, well i'm Magic Dave ;-)

I've since bought an Abus one, slightly bigger 🤦‍♂️ which fits perfectly so the Giro is up for sale

RRP on them is anything from £75 - £120

paid £85 for this one

worn it once on a jolly round Stainburn

looking for £60

Ideal for a mum or dad or a little person with lots of brains 😉

will obviously make sure it's a good fit for you x

PS if you're wondering what MIPS is...its good :-)

MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System.

It is a brain protection technology developed by a Swedish company and featured across more than 120 brands of cycling, skiing, motorcycling, and construction helmets.

How it works: It adds a low-friction plastic layer inside the helmet that allows the helmet to slide 10 to 15 mm in any direction during a crash.

The Goal: To mimic the brain's natural protective fluid and absorb dangerous rotational forces caused by angled or oblique impacts.

The Benefit: It reduces the severity of brain tissue strain, lowering the risk of severe concussions and traumatic brain injuries.

Boom 💥

thank you for your kind words Danni xx

"Dave has been in touch with us for a while with advice and support to get the little man balancing - today we had our magic ‘hour’ - It was more like 5 minutes!

Dave had Jesse setting off, turning, braking safely and doing laps within 10!

I had received amazing customer service from the 1st message, today Jesse would agree and left feeling proud!

Thank you Dave!"

Lovely review in from Sage ❤

day made right here xx

"Dave… respectfully, what kind of witchcraft is this?

I booked a lesson for my son Dylan and within about 3 minutes he was riding a bike.

THREE.

MINUTES.

I was stood there like… sorry?? What just happened??

Dave is so kind and funny, you can tell he really understands how to connect with kids and build their confidence in such a natural way.

He just instantly puts kids at ease - no pressure, just vibes and suddenly your child can ride a bike.

But the best part… when we left, Dylan goes “I can’t wait to come back next week!” (fully thought he’d just signed up to a weekly club like his drum lessons 😭).

When we told him it was a one-off, he was genuinely gutted and said “so does that mean I’ll never see Dave again?”

Sir. You’ve left a lasting emotional impact 😂

Honestly though — amazing experience, couldn’t recommend him more."

Just in from today ❤️

" I have a 6 year old boy who really lacks confidence, for the past 3 years his dad and I have tried to get him into his balance bike which took about 6 month for him to get really confident on it, we then went and got him a bike with stabilisers!

Again it took months and months for him to show an interest and when he eventually did it then took months for him just to be able to do the pedals motion on the bike with the back wheel off the ground.

Months past again before he was able to actually pedal the bike with the wheels on the floor.

After another 6 months building him up we decided to try take the stabilisers off the bike, this was a massive fail and knock to his confidence and it took us a while to get him back to how it was with stabilisers.

A friend recommended Dave to me and I messaged him straight away explaining my situation, he replied really quickly asking a couple of questions, one of which was which bike my son had.

It was then Dave told me that was the problem, he explained in detail the problem with the bike and it made so much sense!

He said if he can balance on his balance bike like you say he can and he can pedal on his normal bike like you say he can, he said I’ll have him riding a bike in 5 minutes!

I booked in straight away albeit sceptical that he would indeed be able to get him to ride a bike in the magic hour let alone 5 minutes.

We turn up on the day and meet Dave, such a friendly calming bloke! My nervous shy boy took to him straight away!

My appointment was 1.15 and George was riding a bike unaided by 1.18!

Actually under the 5 minutes Dave said!!

I cried with happiness and disbelief!

Dave wouldn’t even take the credit for it, said ‘we had baked the cake, he simply put the cherry on top’!

He looked at George’s bike and helmet and gave us recommendations on what bike would be right for him, he said if I have a look and see anything to send it to him and he will see what he thinks!

When we finished the lesson I went home to look for a bike online and sent Dave the ones I had seen and he called me giving me his advice! Something he did not need to do as his job was done!

I would and will be recommending Dave to anyone who is trying to get their child to ride a bike! Really nice guy and I can’t thank or recommend him enough!!! X"
