Feeling a little unsteady on your feet?

Core strength plays such an important role in how we move every day.

It’s not just about having “strong abs”, your core helps support your spine, posture, balance and coordination. When your core, hips, legs, feet and ankles aren’t working together as well as they could, you may notice little things like feeling less steady, tripping more easily, struggling to get up from a chair, feeling wobbly on steps, or losing confidence on uneven ground.

That’s exactly what we focus on in our Chair Supported Pilates and Spinesafe Pilates classes.

These classes are gentle, supportive and designed to help you build strength safely, improve balance, support your spine and feel more confident in your body.

They’re especially helpful if you feel a bit unsteady, have back issues, are returning after injury, or simply want to move in a safer, more controlled way.

You know when you really mean to get going with something… but life just keeps getting in the way?

Work gets busy. Family needs you. You’re not quite feeling it. Or, honestly, you just forget all about it for a while. I really do get it.

There’s actually something called the Decisional Balance process, yes, it’s a real thing! You think about making a change, you take action, you start doing it, then you keep doing it until it becomes part of your routine.

Sounds simple, doesn’t it?

In reality, most of us spend a very long time in the “thinking about it” stage before we actually do anything. Sometimes we wait until something feels frustrating enough, uncomfortable enough, or painful enough before we finally make a change.

And I think that’s where I’m at.

So here it is… I really, really want to get a tri-bike.

Not a bike for three people 😅 A three-wheeled bike, ideally with a big box on the back for my dog Lily.

How long have I been thinking about this? Honestly, I can’t even remember. That’s how long.

But this autumn, I’m determined to actually do something about it.

My first goal is simple: contact a supplier and start asking questions. I’ve been looking at Jorvik Cycles, but if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.

It needs to be collapsible so I can get it through my gate, store it easily, and ideally fit it into the car so Lily and I can take it on little adventures.

This is my way of trying to include more cardiovascular exercise into my own life. And yes, I know I’m a fitness professional, but that doesn’t mean I always make enough time for my own exercise in the way I’d like to.

So that’s my autumn goal.

What’s yours?

It doesn’t have to be big. It can be something really small and simple, a weekly class, a short walk, getting stronger, improving balance, or finally trying something you’ve been thinking about for ages.

Mine might be a bit ambitious… but I’m determined.

And because I don’t have a tri-bike photo yet… here’s a little picture of Lily, who is absolutely central to this whole plan. 🐾

I wanted to talk about the importance of building and maintaining strength, especially as we age.

When I mention strength training, it doesn’t have to mean lifting heavy weights or using big, weighted bars.

Sometimes, simply adding a small hand weight, even a 2lb dumbbell, to a gentle Pilates movement can make a real difference.

It can help your muscles work a little harder, improve control, support bone strength, build endurance and help you feel stronger in everyday life.

As we get older, we naturally start to lose muscle mass and strength, which can affect balance, posture, mobility and confidence. That’s why adding safe, controlled resistance into movement can be so beneficial.

In class, we use Pilates principles alongside small weights and other equipment to help you:

🧡 Build strength gradually
🧡 Improve posture and core control
🧡 Support your joints and bones
🧡 Feel steadier and more balanced
🧡 Make everyday movements feel easier
🧡 Build confidence in what your body can do

It’s not about pushing yourself too hard. It’s about working safely, moving with control, and giving your body the strength it needs to support you.

So, if you’d like to feel stronger this September, come along and try a class. Your first class is free so please message me if you’d like help choosing the right one for you.

What a lovely summer of workshops we’ve had at MoJo Fitness. 🧡

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come along, whether it was to try Pilates for the first time, learn something new, release tension, move more mindfully, or simply take a bit of time for yourself.

One of the things we’ve loved most has been the sense of community, people coming together, chatting, asking questions, having a go, and supporting each other along the way.

A little spotlight on our HOG Back Relaxer Workshop, as it was such a lovely session.

We worked through gentle trigger point release using the HOG Back Relaxer™, followed by Pilates-style movements to help ease tightness, improve mobility and leave everyone feeling a little more refreshed.

It was so nice to see everyone take time to slow down, notice how different areas of the body felt, and learn more about how to support themselves through movement.

It’s also been lovely to welcome new faces across all our workshops this summer, especially those who felt a bit nervous beforehand but left feeling more confident and comfortable in their bodies.

We can’t wait for September when our weekly classes are back after the summer break.

So if you’ve always wanted to try Pilates, or you’ve been thinking about coming along but haven’t quite taken that first step yet, we’d love to see you.

Our classes are friendly, supportive and suitable for different levels, and your first class is free, so you can come along and see how it feels.

Message me if you’d like help choosing the right class for you.
