I saw this image the other day and wanted to share it because it shows so clearly why strength-based movement matters as we age.

As we get older, we naturally start to lose muscle mass, which can affect our strength, balance, posture, mobility and confidence.

But the good news is, regular movement that helps build and maintain strength can make a real difference. It doesn’t have to mean heavy weights or pushing yourself too hard, gentle, controlled exercises can help keep your body strong, supported and moving well.

That’s exactly what we focus on in our classes at MoJo Fitness: helping you move better, feel stronger and build confidence in your body.

If you’d like to come along and try a class, send me a message. 🧡

Many people come to MoJo Fitness because they want to move more, but feel held back by back pain, stiffness, arthritis, osteoporosis, disc issues, or a fear of making things worse.

That’s one of the reasons I created my Spine Safe Pilates classes.

When your back hurts, it’s natural to want to rest and protect it, but gentle, controlled movement can often help you feel stronger, more mobile and more confident.

In Spine Safe Pilates, we focus on simple, supportive exercises to help improve posture, build core stability, ease tension, and support everyday movement.

These classes are ideal if you’re managing a back issue, returning after injury, or simply want to move in a safer, more supported way.

🧘‍♀️ Spine Safe Pilates Classes
📍 Mondays: 3:30 - 4:40pm
Allhallowgate Methodist Church, Ripon

📍 Thursdays: 9:15 - 10:15am
Christ Church Hall, Harrogate

Your first class is free, so you can come along and see how it feels.

Thinking about coming along to a class but feeling a little nervous? 😊

That’s completely normal, especially if you’re new to Pilates, returning to exercise, or managing a back issue.

At MoJo Fitness, you don’t need to be super fit, flexible, or experienced. You just need to come as you are.

Wear something comfortable that lets you move easily 👕, bring some water 💧, and arrive a few minutes early so we can have a quick chat before class starts.

Please let me know about any back pain, injuries, operations, joint issues, or anything your GP or physio has advised you about.

That way, I can offer the right modifications and help you feel safe and supported. 🤲
Everybody is different, so exercises can be adapted. You will never be pushed to do anything that does not feel right for you. 🙌

The aim is simple: to help you move better, build confidence, and feel good in your body. ✨

Your first class does not have to be scary, it could be the start of feeling stronger, steadier, and more confident. 💪

Message me if you’d like to know which class is best for you. 📩

Something you might not know about me…

A lot of my class members actually come to me through referrals from their GPs or physios.

Often they’re dealing with things like back pain, sports injuries, or recovering from strains and niggles, and need somewhere they can move safely and rebuild confidence.

That’s exactly why I run my Spine Safe Pilates classes, designed specifically for those with back or joint issues who need a more supported, careful approach.

And across all of my classes, nothing is ever “one size fits all.”

Everything is adapted to suit the people in the room, so you’ll never feel pushed, overwhelmed, or out of your comfort zone.

It also highlights something really important, even healthcare professionals recognise how valuable consistent, gentle movement is when it comes to recovery and long-term health.

So whether you’re managing an issue or just want to feel a bit stronger and more comfortable in your body, you’re in safe hands.

If you’d like to know more or come along, just drop me a message or email [email protected]

One of the most common things I hear from people is:

“My hips feel tight…”
“My lower back is always aching…”

And it’s something so many of us just put up with, often not really knowing why it’s happening or what we can do about it.

That’s why I work closely with Chris Aldred from My Physio. Together, we help identify what might be causing the issue and build confidence in how to manage it safely.

So, we’re bringing back our very popular Trigger Point Release Workshop this summer, where I’ll show you simple, effective ways to release tension and better understand your body.

It’s also a great introduction to some new classes we’ll be running from September.

🎥 If you’d like to find out a bit more, here’s a short video explaining what trigger point release is all about, it’ll give you a better idea of what to expect at the workshop

👀 Keep your eyes peeled for dates coming soon… or feel free to drop me a message if you’d like to know more.

💭 Myth: “I’ve got back pain… I should rest.”

This is such a common belief, and years ago, bed rest was often advised.

But we now know that staying still for too long can actually make things worse.
It can lead to more stiffness, increased discomfort, and even more pain over time.
The key? Gentle, regular movement.

Keeping the body moving helps:

✨ Reduce stiffness
✨ Improve circulation
✨ Build strength to better support your back

That’s where Pilates can really help.

It’s low impact, controlled, and focused on building strength and stability, especially through your core, which in turn supports your spine and can help ease those everyday aches and pains.

Of course, it’s always important to listen to your body and seek advice if needed, but in many cases, movement really is medicine.

If you want to get out of pain, why not come along to one of my friendly classes? Send me a message if you find one you’re interest in.
