As we at ZooNation release the film of Message In A Bottle into 500 UK Cinemas today - I find myself conflicted. It should be a day of great celebration - a milestone for us as a company - and the beautiful result of dedicated hard work, vision and talent from a huge team of exceptional people. However - world events can make it feel very hard to celebrate anything right now. The telling of this story is more relevant than ever - and that is heartbreaking. ZooNation is driven by a mission to tell stories that give a voice to the under-represented. I feel privileged to have been part of telling this story and will always be proud of what we have all achieved together.
On that note - I do want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has worked on Message In A Bottle during the last 7 years - from the early workshops in 2017 through to the closing show in Philadelphia just last week. I hope for everyone involved in the show’s creation that we can at least feel proud to be part of telling this vital and true story. I certainly feel proud of the cinematic experience we have created with the camera up close, weaving between the dancers, capturing their pain, their joy, their sweat, their tears, their breath and their exquisite movement quality. It’s a story about love - and the power it has to heal - which is something, I am certain, we all need.
