Harlow Hawks Basketball Club

Harlow Hawks Basketball Club Harlow based basketball club with sessions for; U8's, U11's, U12's, U14's, U17/18's, Girls, Mens, So We run junior teams for the U11 to U18 age groups.

Harlow Hawks Basketball Club was setup by Coach Shab Niaz during the 1999-2000 season with approx 12-14 players under the age of 18, the purpose of this was to give the basketball training sessions a focus and to get them ready to enter a team into the Herts League for the following season. The club over the years has grown and now has a Senior and Junior programme. The senior programme caters for

both competitive play and social. Hawks ran two senior teams that compete in Hertfordshire County League Divisions 1 and 2 as the senior sections expanded. But for the 2013-14 season, Hawks reverted back to one senior team with a view of kick starting the development of the next batch of players for the future of the senior programme. There is a Social Adult session held on Saturday’s which is a pick up and play session for the non-competition level players that wish to participate in a fun play only session. It is a mixed session and the ability and age of players vary, some people are ex-players while others use the sessions are a more enjoyable way of a good workout. The age of the players for the social session ranges from 18 – 55 year olds. The Hawks run a full Junior programme which caters for children from the age of 5 through to 18. There are 4 Junior age groups and each of these are divided up into 3 school year ages. The age groups are U8, U11, U12, U14, U17 and U18 Therefore the players that are in school years 1-3 inclusive would be in the U8 age group. The U11’s particpate in the Junior Central Venue League which Hawks have hosted since 2007. Starting with the 2012-13 season there were not enough teams to host the U14/U17 JCVL’s in Harlow so Hawks entered the Royston JCVL for the U17’s and for the U14’s they played a number of home/away fixtures. From the start of 2016-17 the U17’s will also play a number of home/away fixtures due to the collapse of the Royston JCVL. For the season 2012-13, Hawks entered their first ever Junior National League team, which competed in the U15 age group. The team had a successful first year at this level winning a number of games and loosing a few close one’s as well. They finished 7th in a 10 team league. Now entered into the U18 national league programme, the team has continued to grow with fresh faces joining the squad each year. Also during the 2012-13 season former Hawks Junior Joshua Steel (16 years old) was selected to play in the Nike Jordan Brand Classic in New York at the home of the Brooklyn Nets (Barclays Centre). Joshua was selected as one of the top 10 players out of 40 for his age in Europe, in the annual Jordan Brand European training camp.

🏀 Harlow Hawks – End of Season Presentation 2026 🦅🔥

What a fantastic turnout for our end‑of‑season presentation this Sunday. The hall was packed, the energy was brilliant, and it was the perfect way to celebrate another huge year for the club.

We kicked things off with a crowd favourite: Coaches vs U17/18 Whites. With the Whites coming in unbeaten all season, everyone knew this was going to be a game worth watching. It didn’t disappoint — a great battle from start to finish, but this time the coaches took the win (and they’ll be reminding everyone of that for a while).

Then it was on to the main event: the awards.
🏅 Medals were handed out to all our non‑JCVL age‑group players who attend sessions week in, week out.
🏆 After that, the JCVL teams took centre stage for their awards. A massive well done to every player who picked up one of the main trophies — fully deserved after all the hard work this season.

A few important thank‑yous from the club:
👏 All the parents who support, drive, cheer, and help out behind the scenes.
👏 Our amazing admin team who keep everything running smoothly.
👏 Every single coach who gives up their time to make this club what it is.
📸 And a special shout‑out to Dan, who stepped in as the club photographer for the day and captured the moments that made the event so special.

The future is incredibly bright with the talent coming through our teams. We’re proud of every player who wears the Hawks jersey.

Here’s to another brilliant season — and an even bigger one ahead 🦅💛🖤🔥

What a season it has been for our U11 Hawks teams!
The Hawks White squad finished an impressive 3rd place in the league, securing two comfortable victories on Finals Day and only falling to the eventual league champions, Essex Swish. While an early-season slip-up ultimately cost them the chance of finishing 2nd overall, the team should be incredibly proud of their achievements, commitment, and development throughout the year.
Our Hawks Red development team showed tremendous character all season. Made up of young players who were new to league basketball, they battled hard in every game and never stopped competing. Despite three tough losses on Finals Day, they finished 9th in a highly competitive 10-team league and gained invaluable experience that will help them grow as players for years to come.
There have been highs, lows, celebrations, and disappointments along the way, but both teams have shown fantastic effort, sportsmanship, and resilience throughout the season.
A huge thank you to all the players, coaches, volunteers, and parents for your support. The future is bright for Harlow Hawks basketball! 🦅💙❤️

🏀 Half‑Term Basketball Camp – Secondary Group ☀️

What a day for our secondary group at the half‑term camp. On one of the hottest days of the year, we were very grateful the hall had just enough air‑con to keep everyone going. The players pushed through it with brilliant energy, focus, and attitude.

From drill work to skill stations and everything in between, the effort was outstanding. Every player gave their all, and judging by how hard they worked, they’ll definitely sleep well tonight.

A huge thank you to our guest coach Josh Steel for bringing his experience and enthusiasm to the session, and to our Hawks coaches Coach Shabs and Coach Stu for giving up their time to make this camp happen.

Hopefully everyone had a great time, picked up a few new skills, and enjoyed a fantastic day of basketball.

🦅 Well done, Hawks

We had our first girls tournament here in Harlow at the Mark Hall Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.
The U11’s started us off from 13:30 until 15:30. For all of them it was their first time playing proper games and they did brilliantly. Fabulous energy. Playing great basketball and learning while they went along.
Then we had the U17’s from 13:45 to 17:45. There were 4 teams and all played great basketball. Very intense at times. With some great wins.
Well done to all the players and coaches that took part. Thank you all for coming.
A huge thank you as always to our refs and table officials, we could not do this without you.
And thank you to Coach Shab for making this all happen. Can’t wait for the next one.

🏀 Hawks U14 & U17/18 – Second Trial Complete! 🦅

Another brilliant day of basketball as both age groups wrapped up their second trial session. The energy, effort, and commitment from every single player were outstanding. You all pushed yourselves, supported each other, and made the coaches’ job incredibly tough — which is exactly what strong trials should look like.

Both trials have been a huge success, and we couldn’t be prouder of the standard shown across the board.

A massive thank you to all the coaches for giving up their time to make these sessions happen. Your dedication is what keeps this club moving forward.

And to every player — whether you make the team or not — you should be proud of yourselves. You showed heart, attitude, and a willingness to compete. That’s what being a Hawk is all about.

Now comes the hard part… selecting the teams for next season. Exciting times ahead.

Hawks family strong 🦅🔥
