๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽพ๐Ÿฅ‚Christmas Curry '25๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽพ๐ŸŽ„

Once again we held our annual Club Social locally in the village at The Shakespeare. Members voted for a curry which was a great alternative to the onslaught of turkey ahead, and the spread by The Shake was fantastic.
Slightly later in the calendar meant a few couldn't make it but those who were there enjoyed a good catch up.

We also had the 2 awards voted for by club members.

๐Ÿ…Playersโ€™ Player of the year..... nominations included: Ben, Ian, Jeunine, Jean-Paul, John, Joe, Karen B, Lucy, Makka & Nigel.

And the winner was........ Ben Fish!
" He is a fantastic player and he also encourages all who he plays with. He also is someone who will let everyone get involved. For example at tournaments he does not feel need to play at 100% and win, he allows everyone a good game. Also for captaining the A's to promotion to League 1 over the summer"

๐Ÿ…Club Member of the Year....there were nominations for Colin, David, Ed, Emma, Ian, Jeunine, Nigel, John, John Paul, Karen B & Peter.

And the winners were........ David Bristow and Nigel Eaton
"David regularly attends club social sessions and is always ready to take on maintenance/repairs, e.g. fence repairs, clubhouse plumbing, mends nets by hand sewing. Just gets on with these jobs behind the scenes, no fuss"
"Nigel - for battling on with the singles laddder & teams role, its a lot of effort behind the scenes which means we can all enjoy playing matches"

Well done to our winners, and thank you all for making it a great evening.

โ˜€๏ธ ๐ŸŒญ BBQ Tournament ๐ŸŒญ โ˜€๏ธ

ITโ€™S A NUMBERS GAME: 17, 32, 22 & 14 (by Peter Walshe- Tournament Director)

Tuesday the Twelfth of August was a clear HOT day with the Tournament starting at 32โฐC (the first number).
But the BBQ still had to be lit as it was not quite hot enough to fry the sausages on the pavement slabs.

17 (the second number) took part in two groups of eight and nine, with lots of very close matches.
Each group was narrowed down to four players who had scored the most games in their matches โ€“ but unfortunately Colin Mercer and Makhan Kandola vied for the fourth place with the same score. That was decided by the fact that when Makhan was against Colin, Makhan triumphed, so Colin sportingly stood down and went to get his dog Brooklyn who came back and enjoyed the temptation of grilling sausages.

In the other group there was also a tie for fourth between John Hutchinson and John-Paul Cosgrove. But they had not played each other. Who would go through? John H graciously volunteered to stand down because he was due to play a match early the next day. We know he was being kind.

Thus Nigel Eaton and Lucy Ewen had a semi final against fortunate Makhan and the lucky JP. JP and Makhanโ€™s luck held and they made it to the final. Their opponents were David Bristow and Jeunine Crabtree who had defeated Andy Smith and Helen Cooper.

The temperature was more balmy by this time and battle ensued.
Lucky JP with Makhan prevailed and won the tournament.
So what about the other two numbers? 22 and 14. Well, they were the player numbers of JP and Makhan.
Itโ€™s a numbers game and it all adds up.

Another memorable Strawberry Tournament in the books! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ†
We had a truly perfect warm, if not breezey, evening this past Tuesday for the coveted hand-carved strawberry bowl, a beautiful piece made by Eira's late father.

It was great to welcome some new players to the club and courts this year!
And what a final it was โ€“ congrats to our late-entry "wildcards", Sue and Ed, for clinching the win! A massive well done to Jeunine and Lucy too, who fought hard for second place in a nail-biting tie-break.

A special shout-out and heartfelt thanks to Eira for her incredible generosity with the strawberries, Peter for his brilliant work with the seeding, and Colin for ensuring everything ran smoothly on the night.

Once again, the club were kindly invited to provide refreshments for shoppers and stall holders at the monthly local produce market held in the village hall.

An excellent team of members (and their families) gave up their Saturday morning to make bacon sandwiches and cups of tea and coffee.

It raised a fantastic ยฃ368 which will be used to strengthen the facilities and equipment at the club.

Thanks to Harbury Local Market for having us, and to Sue J, Sue P, Colin, Ian, Andy, Maka, Peter and families for all their support ๐Ÿ‘

Bit of a belated Tournament report, but it's definitely one for the page for the well-deserved winners!

๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽพ๐Ÿฅ‚Christmas Social '24๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽพ๐ŸŽ„

This year, we again held our annual Club Social locally in the village at The Crown.

Into the 3rd year, we also had the 2 awards voted for by club members.

๐Ÿ…Playersโ€™ Player of the year..... nominations included: Ben Fish, Ian Reynolds, Jeunine Crabtree, Josh Marsahall, Joe Robson, James Edge, Sue Johnson, Nigel Eaton and Eira Owens.

And the winner was.. Jeunine Crabtree!
"She is always at club night. She always wants to play. Sometimes driving hundreds of miles just to play"

๐Ÿ…Club Member of the Year....there were nominations for Emma Brangwin, Ian Reynolds, Nigel Eaton, Josh Marshall and Joe Robson.

And the winner was......... Ian Reynolds
"Ian is always willing to help out wherever he can, and will always help out teams whether heโ€™s carrying an injury or not! Most commendable though is the way he has recruited people out of the pub and onto the courts, giving them confidence to join in with club activities such as cardio as well".

Well done to our winners, and thank you all for making it a lovely evening.
