I saw every sneer, heard every snide comment and felt every emotion as my life fell apart.
The world almost seemed to celebrate as I hit rock bottom, but then, some people just don’t want you to be happy and succeed.
And I’m good with that, because they’re not going to be standing at the top when I rise from the ashes of my life.
If I’ve learned anything in my life, it’s that the person I can truly depend on is me when everything goes awry.
Instead of asking “why?” like I had for so long, I started finding the lesson in every failure and the silver lining in every storm.
Am I going to tell you that it’s been easy or fun?
Not a chance.
Do you think that growth is painless?
No, it has hurt worse than anything I’ve ever faced.
But I’m still here, still standing.
More than that, I’m climbing.
To the top of the next hill, past the next obstacle and then further.
There was a time not so long ago that I would have just stayed down, complained and felt sorry for myself-
It’s really easy to do that when you feel hopeless.
And those first steps of my journey back were some of the hardest days of my life.
When I came out of those storms in my life that almost destroyed me, I wasn’t the same person that walked into those life lessons.
But that’s the purpose of these storms that come crashing into our lives-
To change us and force us to grow.
I couldn’t control what was happening to me, but I realized I could control how I responded.
And that became my power.
Step by step, little by little, I began to find my way back from the darkness of rock bottom.
I will never be defined by the times I fail or get knocked down..
But how I get back up and keep going.
So, as I look over my shoulder at all those who are in disbelief at my comeback, I just smile to myself.
They never really knew me at all if they thought I would quit when it got hard.
I scrapped, fought and battled to put back together the pieces of my broken life-
Right in front of the ones who tried to break me.
They scoffed as they told me I’d never become anything..
And I smiled as I passed them on my way to the top.
I just said two words as I walked past.
“Watch me.”
Next stop, making my dreams come true.
