Hilton Valley Carp Fishery Hilton Valley Carp Fishery is situated in the Essex Colne Valley. There are 3 lakes, Caney, Coblands, and Shal’s Pond.

At present there are twenty+ 30lb fish, all a strain of young English fish.

Some fish leave a lasting impression, and this one certainly did.

When Jack Warren landed this stunning 26.2lb common from Caney back on 9th June, there was one thing everyone noticed straight away...

Just look how dark it is! πŸ‘€πŸ”₯

With its deep, almost black colouring from nose to tail, it stands out as one of the most distinctive commons in the lake.

After landing the fish, we asked Jack if he'd like to give it a name, and he came up with the perfect choice...

It's always nice when anglers become part of a fish's story, and we're sure plenty of you will be hoping to meet Jack Black on the bank in the seasons ahead 🎣

After seeing photos of his fantastic catches, here's 9-year-old Leo Bennett putting his angling skills to work on the Birch VIP Swim at Coblands.

Watch as Leo calmly plays this lovely Common carp all the way into the landing net. 🎣

For someone so young, he showed great patience and control throughout the fight – a credit to himself.
This fish was part of a memorable session that also produced the stunning 13lb 2oz "Leo's Linear".

🎣 A Session to Remember for Leo! 🎣

A huge congratulations to Leo Bennett, aged just 9, on landing these two fantastic carp from the Birch VIP Swim on Coblands.

Not only did Leo catch this lovely Common, but he also went on to land this stunning 13lb 2oz Linear – a fish that clearly made a lasting impression.

✨ Introducing "Leo's Linear" ✨

After landing this beautiful fish, Leo chose to name it "Leo's Linear", and we think it's a fitting name for such a special catch.

Fishing isn't always easy, and catches like these are a tremendous achievement for any angler, especially at just 9 years old. It's fantastic to see young anglers enjoying the sport, building confidence, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Leo's successful approach for the session was Mainline Cell, proving as effective as ever. 🎣

As temperatures rise, it's more important than ever to put fish welfare first.

Hot weather can place extra stress on carp, so taking a few simple precautions can make a huge difference:

βœ… Have all your equipment ready before lifting the fish
βœ… Keep unhooking mats and slings well soaked
βœ… Minimise time out of the water
βœ… Keep fish wet during handling and photography
βœ… Treat hook holds before release
βœ… Ensure fish have fully recovered before swimming off

A great catch is only half the story, making sure it returns safely is what matters most.
