21 years. Where has that gone?

This weekend I was honoured to receive my 21 Year Life Membership Award at the BATD annual conference. It feels strange being recognised for something I've simply loved being part of for so long.

Highland dancing has given me so much over the years, opportunities, friendships, challenges, experiences and a career that I genuinely love.
From being a little girl putting on my dance shoes to now teaching dancers of my own, it has been quite a journey.

I'm very proud to receive this award and grateful to everyone who has played a part in my total teaching time of 23 years.

Here's to many more years of teaching 💙

The Moments You Don't See 💙

When people think about dance, they often picture the performance itself, the turns, the leaps, the choreography, and the music.

But some of the most meaningful moments happen when no one is watching.

It's the friendships formed during water breaks, events and even warm-ups. The laughter between friendships. The mentor who encourages you when you're doubting yourself. The quiet words of support from friends, the shared excitement, and the feeling of belonging somewhere that grows over time.

Dancing isn't just about learning steps. It's about the people who "dance along" the journey with you.

The friendships that feel like family
For both dancers and parents. The teachers who inspire confidence. The moments of kindness, encouragement, and connection that often go unnoticed but leave the biggest impact.

Years later, we may forget certain routines or combinations, but we will always remember how dancing made us feel, and the people and events that made those memories special.

Sometimes the moments you don't see are the ones that mean the most. ❤️

What a brilliant day in John O’Groats at the Caithness Vintage Car Rally! 🚗✨

We were delighted to have over 20 dancers perform today, and their smiles said it all.
From first-time performers to those who have done it for years , every single dancer showed up, gave it their all, and had the best time.
Their confidence, and love of dancing shone through in every performance.

A huge well done to all our dancers 🩷💚💙

Our dancers continue to improve week on week, and we're so proud of them! ✨

This is a very busy term with the local music festival, sports days, end-of-term events, and World Cup celebrations, so it means a lot to see our dancers continuing to come to class and work hard.

Their commitment is paying off, and the progress they're making is wonderful to see. Well done to all our dancers, and thank you to our families for your continued support

A HUGE well done to Eilidh on achieving her Purple Hoodie and exceeding an amazing 50 hours of volunteering! 🫡 what a star! ⭐️

Eilidh is dedicating so much of her free time to helping younger dancers at Tanya Horne School of Highland Dancing Ltd 🥰

She’s already been working hard on her next achievement with the submission of her Choose To Lead Level 4 (next hoodie coming soon for 75hrs volunteering) and shes already on to the next! 💪

BIG thanks also to Tanya Horne in giving her students the time, training and opportunity to learn such important leadership skills in her dance studio in Halkirk! 🙌

**NEW ASSOCIATE ***

Madison Russell has just received her results for her Associate Highland exam with a Highly Commended. Giving Madison the qualification to begin teaching 💙🩷💚

What we really want to give Madison a shoutout for is this: since lockdown in 2020, she has been taught fully online once a fortnight. She has truly proved that when you take responsibility for your own learning and put the work in, you really can achieve anything.

Not only has she just completed this huge professional exam, but she’s also been sitting her Nat 5s at school at the very same time. That is such an incredible achievement. She basically added an extra subject onto her workload and studied until she knew the book inside out and back to front.

I honestly think that deserves a huge amount of recognition. We are all so proud of you, Madison!
