Episode 3..... I can feel you have all been waiting for more of my pointless life experiences.
So at this stage I was doing mobile personal training sessions with bits of equipment in my car, circuit training classes at my local community centre and coaching ladies boxing classes. I thought I needed to be in a commercial gym so I did some digging. A new gym had opened in the town centre and was looking for PTs I made the phone call and was invited down to meet the team and have a chat.
I was absolutely bricking it! I was met by the gym manager, big guy ginger hair and beard now I'm really nervous then the "lady" at reception..... Beautiful, blond hair, talks posh, young, got her s**t together, I'm like bitch π€¦. Turns out we became really good friends. Big ginger guy, not so much. As we are chatting near the entrance a male gym member comes in, low and behold, asking about personal training sessions. Basically I was given my first client and a new job in a split second. Wahooooooooo. The relationship with this client actually led me to meet his wife who actually is a resident PT at LB Fitness.
Working at the gym and learning how to approach members, build relationships has been a major part of my success I believe. Most mornings I'd see a couple of men absolutely smashing the treadmill I didn't know at the time but they were brothers, there on different days....... Very good runners, but absolutely shocking at strength training. You can see where this is going. We are very good friends these days and they own a local business which I support and recommend frequently.
Point one of today's episode build relationships, get to know your people, listen to them.
Months went by. I was busy putting unpaid hours into the gym, teaching many classes as part of my scheduled hours. PT clients at the gym and home, boxing coaching. Classes at the community centre. However I knew exactly what I was doing, BUILDING. By know I realised a commercial gym wasn't for me but it was essentially for my growth. I didn't like being told what to do (who knew) I knew I needed to be me and do what I wanted to do.
Remember big ginger guy???? I remember him pulling me into his office, I mean the back utility room. It was the chat, how are getting on, he mentioned I was all over the place, erm sorry? He said classes here, classes there, PT everywhere, that sort of flippent attitude. I definitely wasn't being flippant. I was keeping my options open, getting as many experiences as I possibly could, I was moving forward quietly but confidently.
Point two of today's episode. DO YOU!
