So yesterday I was invited to take 4 members to an all day event at the Gymshark Lifting Club in aid of the launch of the Gym Fitness League.
Firstly, what an amazing gym it is, somewhere I've wanted to visit for a while.
The event was split between 2 categories, STRONG and ENGINE which we could choose 1 or both.
For the 1st half of the day Laura did ENGINE whilst Michelle, Mark and Tom did STRONG.
In the 2nd half, Mark did ENGINE and I did STRONG.
The place was packed with University teams and the Royal Marines bought a team to compete with the average age at around 25 and around 85 % of all competitors being under 40 with our team all, with the exception of Tom being well over 40.
As a team we did well with Michelle coming 1st place in both the bench press and more impressive the deadlift only 12 months post serious back surgery and without her trusted Lifting belt.
There were well over 170 people competing.
Personally I came 12 overall in the male STRONG competition after not really doing ANY proper strength training in the past 12 months and only my 3rd workout in 6 months following debilitating knee problems.
Mark came 7th in the ENGINE category, Laura came 3rd in the ENGINE
Michelle came 2nd in the STRONG
Tom came 16th overall in Male STRONG.
