π Exciting news for Hailsham Cricket Club! π
We have now submitted a planning application (Ref: WD/2026/0615/F) for proposed improvements to our pavilion at Western Road Recreation Ground.
The plans include:
β
An additional changing room - ensuring that we can offer dedicated female and officials' changing for all open fixtures
β
A large fuction room/bar area for club and community use, with a balcony overlooking the ground
β
Improved accessibility with step-free access
β
Enhanced facilities for players, volunteers, spectators and local community groups
β
Improved storage and pavilion functionality
This project represents an important next step in the clubβs development. Over recent years, Hailsham Cricket Club has grown significantly, with record numbers of junior players, a thriving womenβs and girlsβ section, and increasing use of the pavilion by other sports clubs and community groups. Our existing facilities are now at capacity.
The proposed improvements would help us continue that journey by providing facilities that match the ambitions of the club, creating an environment that supports player development, helps raise playing standards across all sections while providing a pathway for future generations of local players, and enables us to attract and retain players, volunteers and coaches. Just as importantly, the project would provide better, more inclusive and more accessible facilities for the wider community who use the pavilion throughout the year.
The new facilities would not only benefit our members, but also the many other organisations that regularly use the pavilion, including Hailsham Hockey Club, Hailsham Harriers, Hailsham Netball Club, local community groups and families.
Itβs important to note that obtaining planning permission is simply the first step in the process. The club has prepared a grant fund application, which requires planning permission to be in place before funding can be considered. The project will therefore be dependent on successfully securing both planning and grant funding before any construction works can proceed.
We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from Hailsham Town Council to date. As owners of the Recreation Ground, the Town Council has been supportive of our vision to improve and future-proof this important community facility for the benefit of current and future generations.
