Hellingly Rugby Club was created in 1974 by a group of three rugby fanatics, who over a few too many pints in the local pub in Hellingly, decided that they should set up a rugby team. With no clubhouse or showers, they somehow managed to get some fixtures using a pitch on the local recreation ground. Rounding up anyone keen (or stupid) enough to join, they soon had enough regular players to enter the leagues, and whilst still drinking in the local hostelry after games, so began the legend that is Hellingly Rugby Club.
40 years later, Hellingly Rugby Club have established themselves in Sussex Rugby, running 2 men's teams and a thriving minis & youth section. The club has a reputation for it's friendly and social welcome to all who visit. With no major aspirations, it prides itself on strong team spirit and a happy atmosphere - giving players the chance to enjoy their rugby in a social environment.

A note we never expected to share.

Our thoughts, love, and deepest condolences go out to Clair’s children, family, friends, and loved ones at this heartbreaking time.

Clair embodied everything rugby. From being pitchside for her boys every Saturday, to travelling around the country supporting her girls every Sunday, her dedication and warmth touched everyone across our club.

She will forever remain in our hearts and be remembered as part of our family.

After a series of canceled games due to player issues (not us) we’re booked, confirmed, and ready to hit the pitch.

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again!

This Saturday, we’re hosting a special charity match to raise funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK

The lineup features a mix of true Hellingly and Eastbourne legends, so you can expect a cracking game of rugby on the pitch.
If you’re at a loose end or just want to catch some quality rugby for a great cause, head down to Hellingly Rugby Club this Saturday, 24th October.
