We were delighted to be invited to join another BSAC group for a 40-metre dry-dive session at Northwest Diver Medical Services.

The entire morning was packed with fascinating information, practical insights, and plenty of opportunities to learn more about the physiological effects of diving at depth. Dave, who delivered the session, was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the subject to life with a great mix of expertise, real-world experience, and humour, making the time fly by while keeping everyone fully engaged.

The dry-dive experience gave us a valuable opportunity to better understand how our bodies respond to increased pressure and reinforced the importance of safe diving practices. It was both educational and enjoyable, and everyone came away having learned something new.

We genuinely feel that this is a must for all divers, regardless of experience level. Whether you’re newly qualified or have hundreds of dives under your belt, the knowledge gained from experiencing and understanding the effects of pressure in a controlled environment is invaluable and can only help make you a safer, more informed diver.

A huge thank you to The Potteries and Staffordshire Divers for extending the invitation and allowing us to take part in such an interesting and worthwhile event. We really appreciated the warm welcome and the chance to share the experience with fellow divers.

Please enjoy a few photos from the morning, which capture some of the highlights of a fantastic session! 📸🤿

The maximum depth was 50 meters. Down there, daylight was little more than a fading memory, filtered through layers of dark, cold water. Visibility remained surprisingly good; the water was clear enough to see the shapes of rocks and submerged structures emerging from the gloom, yet dark enough that everything seemed wrapped in shadow. The temperature had dropped to just 8°C, and the cold pressed against every exposed surface, slowly working its way through gloves and suit alike.

At that depth, sound behaves differently. The familiar noises of the surface world—wind, waves, voices, engines—are completely absent. What remains is an almost overwhelming stillness. The silence feels so profound that it becomes a presence of its own, a weight hanging in the water around you. Every breath and every exhaled stream of bubbles seems unnaturally loud, breaking the quiet for only a moment before it is swallowed once again by the depths.

There is a strange sense of isolation there, suspended between the surface far above and the darkness below. Time seems to slow, and the world narrows to the beam of a torch and the few meters of water surrounding you. In that silent underwater landscape, only the gnomes are there to keep you company—small, unexpected figures standing patiently in the depths, their familiar shapes lending a touch of humour and companionship to an otherwise eerie and otherworldly environment. They seem almost like guardians of the deep, waiting quietly for the next diver to descend into their cold, silent realm.

“Well done, Mr. Christopher Dring, on achieving your qualification — a milestone that is thoroughly deserved and one we are delighted to celebrate with you. Although the qualification itself was completed under Slaters SCUBA, Christopher has always been a valued member of Just 4 Fun Diving, so it only felt right that we recognised and shared in this special achievement together.

The certificate may have been long overdue (presented by our Chairman) but as they say, better late than never! Your dedication, enthusiasm, and continued passion for diving have never gone unnoticed, and it’s fantastic to finally see your hard work formally acknowledged.

Here’s to many more dives, new adventures beneath the surface, and plenty more memorable moments with the diving family. Congratulations once again, Christopher — very well deserved indeed! 🤿🥰🤙🏼👏🏼👏🏼”

This is the latest video shared by one of our members — a stunning perspective of Wastwater, captured both above the surface and deep beneath it. From the dramatic Lakeland scenery to the dark, crystal-clear depths below, it perfectly reflects the kind of diving experiences that make our club special.
We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a strong community of skilled, experienced divers. At Just 4 Fun Diving, the vast majority of our members are genuinely self-reliant in the water. That doesn’t mean “solo diving” — it means divers who are competent, aware, prepared, and capable of taking responsibility for themselves and contributing positively to the team around them. We believe every diver should arrive ready to dive safely, confidently, and with the right mindset.
Because of that philosophy, we’re very selective about who joins us. We accept Sports Divers (or equivalent certification level) and above, not to exclude people, but to maintain the standard of diving we expect within the group. Our focus is not simply on collecting certifications or ticking boxes — it’s about developing divers properly. We encourage continuous improvement in buoyancy, awareness, rescue readiness, dive planning, gas management, communication, and overall watermanship.
“Good enough” has never been our benchmark. We want every diver in the club to become the very best version of themselves underwater — capable, calm, dependable, and always learning. That shared attitude creates a safer, more enjoyable environment for everyone, whether we’re exploring flooded quarries, inland sites like Wastwater, or venturing further afield on sea dives and expeditions.
If you’re the kind of diver who values high standards, personal responsibility, teamwork, and unforgettable diving experiences with equally committed people, then Just 4 Fun Diving could be exactly the group you’ve been looking for.🤿🥰🤙🏼

So today two potential Just 4 Fun Diving members wanted to try out a DPV that’s being sold by one of our branch members, and honestly… it would’ve been rude not to make the most of the glorious weather! ☀️🌊

So with the sun shining, visibility looking decent, and the temptation of underwater scooters too good to ignore, we suited up, donned the SCUBA kit, and headed in for a proper play session beneath the surface. 🤿🚀

Safe to say the DPV put some huge smiles on faces — there’s just something ridiculously fun about effortlessly cruising through the water like an underwater astronaut! 🥰🤙🏼

Great company, warm weather, plenty of laughs, and another cracking excuse to get wet with the dive family. Days like these are exactly what it’s all about. 💙🌊
