Bruce Jobson Tribute
Newcastle United v Leeds United. 07/01/26
8th Minute applause for Bruce!
To the many friends of the late, great Bruce Jobson of Hazon Mill and formerly of Dairy Farm, South Broomhill and Hope Farm, Amble in Northumberland.
We as a family would be very appreciative if a round of applause could be offered to Bruce on the 8th minute of the Newcastle v Leeds game on Wednesday 7th February 2026 as a tribute to someone who gave his all to football. Feel free to remember Bruce at St James’ Park, at home or wherever you will be watching the match. The 8th minute being the day he was born on the 8th February 1954.
Bruce Henry Jobson passed away in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada on the 20th November 2025 having attended the Royal Canadian Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.
Bruce was a well-known and respected farmer, journalist, broadcaster and football coach. He championed British Farmers and wrote the groundbreaking Farmageddon series on Bernicia Media Bruce would often appear on GB News where he would reguarly debate with leading political figures on the issues British farmers and consumers were facing. Leading political figures were impressed with Bruce's knowledge and at the age of 71, he was ready to help put together proposals that would help shape a brighter future for U.K farmers and consumers. Bruce's articles on farming have been translated into five languages and published in over 120 countries worldwide. He formed close friendships with GB News reporter Dougie Beattie and BBC broacaster Rachel Sweeney.
My Dad Bruce Jobson had many passions in life, his family, farming and journalism – but one thing he loved football – and Newcastle United in particular. He enjoyed watching heroes such as “Supermac” Malcolm MacDonald, Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Alan Shearer and many others.
The Jobson family have supported Newcastle United since it was founded in 1892 and that love continues with both myself, brother Shaun and Bruce's grandson's Brody and Bowie.
Bruce would love to watch games at home with me and Mam, his wife Helen. Whenever Newcastle was on T.V Bruce and I would watch the games in the room, fervently captured in the action.
Bruce went to school at Wennington Hall, near Wetherby in the 1960’s/1970’s and on weekends would hitchhike back home to watch Newcastle play. On the occasions when he couldn’t watch Newcastle, he would go to watch Leeds United play. Leeds had a championship winning team with Manager Don Revie in the 1960's and 1970’s and Bruce enjoyed watching some great games which featured legendary figures like Johnny Giles, Billy Bremner and local hero Jack Charlton.
Bruce would watch Newcastle play home and abroad and enjoyed going to the match in Portugal in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup against Vitoria Setubal in 1969 with his brother, my Uncle George.
Bruce founded Trident Soccer alongside my brother Shaun and I in 1995. The programme has enabled tens of thousands of youngsters to enjoy playing football in Northumberland and recently celebrated 30 years of football development in September 2025. Bruce and the Jobson family sponsored England Lioness Lucy Bronze to attend The University of North Carolina in 2004 which led to Lucy being offered a scholarship at the world’s most prestigious women’s football programme.
Bruce was well known to Newcastle United and highly regarded within the Academy. He had extensive connections in football in the U.K, Europe, the U.S.A and Canada and would assist those youngsters who were looking for a new club if they were not offered a deal to prolong their careers with Newcastle. Bruce would assist both my brother Shaun and I whilst on scouting duties for Newcastle United and had a keen eye for talented players. He helped establish a link with Californian team Temecula FC with family friend Brandon Jantz helping talented footballers from the U.S to train with local teams. Bruce was also part of an American consortium that tried to buy Scottish Premiership side Gretna F.C in 2008.
A well-respected figure in local football, Bruce was Chairman of both Swarland FC and Amble FC in the Northern Alliance Football League, North Northumberland League, Morpeth Sunday League and Glendale League, enabling and funding over 300 local youngsters to play football and would coach and manage the teams winning the Robson Cup with Swarland F.C ‘A. He also served on the committee of Gosforth Bohemians in the 1990’s.
My brother Shaun flew over to Canada to be with our Dad. Bruce was cremated in Canada and Shaun returned home with our Dad's ashes. Newcastle United Legend Jonas Gutierrez was on the same flight from Heathrow to Newcastle and was very supportive to Shaun and I about Bruce. Bruce's ashes will be spread in a private ceremony in the spring when new life is all around. The family will arrange a celebration of his life for close family and in the summer of 2026 arrange a charity football match where everyone can celebrate Bruce and raise money for charities close to his heart.
Watching Newcastle play was something my Dad and I would enjoy together and I am so pleased he got to see his beloved Newcastle win the 2025 Caribou League Cup final against Liverpool. To see him smile and jump for joy was something I will hold dearly in my heart forever.
Please enjoy the photos – there are many special memories! What a day it was for Bruce, the family and good friend the late John Bell, to lead some championship winning Hope Farm Holstein heifers onto St James Park alongside Kevin Keegan!
Thank you and please share this post to fellow Newcastle fans or anyone wishing to take part in the 8th minute round of applause tribute for Bruce.
