Lighting up the future of London Aquatics Centre ✨💡

One of London’s most iconic sporting venues has had a serious upgrade.

A £685,000 lighting investment at London Aquatics Centre has introduced a new energy-efficient LED system, reducing energy consumption by up to 60% while giving the venue a whole new level of flexibility.

From elite swimming competitions and televised events to filming, photography and community use, the new system can transform the atmosphere at the touch of a button 🎥🏊

🌈 Colour-changing lighting
🎶 Lighting effects that can sync with music
💡 Eight pre-set light shows
🌱 Up to 60% less energy used at full output
🏊 The ability to illuminate individual areas or black out the pool

The upgrade means this iconic London 2012 venue can continue to evolve, hosting everything from world-class athletes to local swimmers, while operating more sustainably.

“My child doesn’t want to do swim lessons anymore, because they don’t like it.”

We hear this a lot - and we completely understand. Not every child loves swimming, and that’s okay. ❤️

But swimming lessons aren’t really about whether your child likes swimming.

They’re about water safety.

We don’t teach children to swim because we expect them to spend their lives doing lengths of a pool.
We teach them because water is everywhere - swimming pools, holidays, beaches, rivers, paddling pools - and accidents can happen in seconds.

Learning how to float, tread water, get to the side, control their breathing and get themselves out of trouble could one day be the difference between a scary moment and a tragedy.

So yes, your child might say they don’t like swimming.

They might not enjoy every lesson.

They might prefer to do something else.

But learning a life-saving skill isn’t always about doing something because we like it.

Sometimes, we learn it because we need it.

The Parent Pod was created to provide inclusive, supportive and affordable activities for children with additional needs and their families in Scarborough.

Through the Community Champions scheme, The Parent Pod will have access to facilities at Scarborough Sports Village, helping them continue their fantastic work while creating even more opportunities for local families to connect, take part and feel supported.
