Konjaku Shin National School of Karate

Konjaku Shin National School of Karate World Class instruction with Sensei Dave Kershaw 8th Dan, former British Champion. All grades are transferrable, and no-one loses the grade they currently hold.

Konjaku Shin was founded in 1978 by Chief Instructor Dave Kershaw, who today holds the grade of 8th Dan black belt. Starting out in a wooden hut, and progressing to classes in leisure centres in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham, the school now has its own three storey premises in Lower Spring Street, Grimsby. s, with a studio, lounge, kitchen and changing facilities on the ground floor, and fully equipped gym in the basement. Classes are held six days a week, with dedicated childrens classes from the age of four, and seperate adults classes. Konjaku Shin teaches traditional Shotokan Karate-Do, with emphasis on self-development, particularly in self-confidence, self-awareness, and of course self-defence. Students progress at their own rate, with well structured and systematic classes. Konjaku Shin has had remarkable success in tournaments over the years, producing many British champions. Chief Instructor Dave Kershaw was himself SKI(GB) Champion for a record six consecutive years between 1987 and 1992. Konjaku Shin holds free taster sessions every Sunday and Wednesday, and new members are always welcome. Dan (black belt) and Kyu (coloured belt) gradings are held every three months and are conducted by Dave Kershaw as Chief Instructor and Examiner. In 2001, Dave Kershaw was invited to teach in India. Since then, he has overseen the development of karate there, and Konjaku Shin (India) is now well established and continues to grow.

For those who have visited from other clubs and have enjoyed the instruction of Sensei Dave Kershaw, please be aware he is available for courses worldwide, which includes our corner of the country!
For anyone looking for an affiliation, I cannot recommend Konjaku Shin International enough. To have a Chief instructor who is actively interested in your club members, who instructs not only technical ability, but brings out the very best in every student, no matter what ability/grade is a rare find.
We have the templates for your dojo risk assessments which can easily be adapted for your own dojo's.
