Some tips for getting back to it:

Follow the rules and regulations, respect the staff and other members and understand theyโ€™re trying their hardest to keep things working as safely as possible โœ…

Warm up thoroughly, like a good 15 minutes of mobility and movement patterns with minimal weight โ™จ๏ธ
-
Concentrate on form, stability, control and a steady rep tempo with controlled breathing, choose big compound movements and whole body workouts before attempting body part splits โœ…
-
Do not try for new 1rms or previous top sets as youโ€™ll likely put yourself at risk of injury โŒ๐Ÿค•
-
Prioritise sound nutrition, adequate rest (this includes sleep!) and hydration ๐Ÿฅ˜ ๐Ÿ’ค ๐Ÿ’ง

Most of us will have only had limited equipment or some neglected training so be patient with yourself, weโ€™re all in the same situation! Weโ€™ll be aback at our best in due course โณ

Iโ€™ve been in this seriously for 7 years now. I decided from the start it was all or nothing.

Things all of a sudden slowed down, 7 years had passed and Iโ€™ve been all reflective, looking at all the pros and cons.
-
โœ…: Iโ€™m physically where Iโ€™d like to be without much more work. One more off season if I want to compete open class and a pre contest diet away from competing in classic again. Iโ€™m proud of my physique ๐Ÿ™

โœ…: Lessons learned from going there, really fu***ng going there. A true blood and guts heavy set to failure and forced eccentrics. Tapping into that inner aggression, that dark place in your head. Maximal loads, fibre tearing, skin ripping, RPE:11. It all teaches you that the pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow ๐Ÿ’ช

โœ…: Discipline. Training, eating round the clock, minimising social occasions to the necessary.

โœ…: Always be the hardest worker in the room. One of the most undervalued aspects of the gym is using the environment to push you beyond your limits

โœ…: Living by a different set of values. I was mission oriented in my goals. I didnโ€™t care for the material world or A-typical milestones. My aspirations were everything even though some might never happen and theyโ€™re usually a transient experience, Iโ€™d already invested too much into it. It was my sole purpose. I felt this set me apartโ˜๏ธ

โŒ: Never realised my true potential academically

โŒ: Became too consumed by the lifestyle

โŒ: Personal relationships suffered

โŒ: Never appreciated how far Iโ€™d come. Always striving for the next level

โŒ: Forgetting who I was before and at times struggling with my identity

โŒ: Regular physical pain and injuries. Joints, tendons, torn muscles

โŒ: Missing out on life

All in all, of course I would do some things differently. This lockdown has taught me humility, self worth and to be grateful for all that I have. It's time to address the cons โ˜๏ธ
