Jimmy Lang Trophy Update

Unfortunately, due to the current weather conditions and the forecast for the rest of the day, we have taken the decision to cancel today’s Jimmy Lang Trophy.

This decision is not taken lightly due to the effort that has gone in to organising the day by the committee, the greenkeepers, Kerry and all the Inverclyde Leisure team.

We will communicate the rearranged date in the coming days.

Margaret Lever Seniors Open Trophy Results 🏆

After a showery start to the day, the weather turned for the better, allowing our members and visitors playing in the Seniors Open to enjoy the course and return some great scores.

The scratch prize was claimed by Largs Golf Club member and multiple winner of the Whinhill Club Championship, Jim Callaghan.

The Seniors Open trophy was claimed by Whinhill’s Chris McNeil, who returned an excellent nett score of 65 to win by two shots.

We would like to thank everyone who participated today, the greens team for preparing the course, which is starting to take shape as we head into the peak of our season, and Kerry and all at Inverclyde Leisure for their hospitality in the clubhouse throughout the day.

The raffle for a bottle of whisky raised £124 and was won by Martin Turner. The money will go towards our running total for this years designated charity, Ardgowan Hospice.

Finally, we would like to thank the Lever family for their continued support of the event.

Texas Scramble Open Results

Our first Open competition of the year was held today, theTexas Scramble Open, a competition that h.as become a tradition since its debut in our Centenary year back in 2011.

We would like to thank all 31 teams of members and visitors who took part and would also like to thank Heather and the team from Inverclyde Leisure for their hospitality in the club house before and after the rounds.

The winners on the day were the team of Ryan McAulay, Chris McDiarmid, Sean McGinlay and Ross Miller (Greenock Golf Club), who returned an outstanding score of 54.1.
Their score owed much to the front 9 of 26 shots which set up the victory.

Boxing Day Scramble

The annual Texas Scramble competition was played today with 11 teams competing for this years title.

There were some great scores returned and some not so great.

Gary Harkins (Strokeplay Champion) and John Donald (Club Champion) entered a “dream team” but they led their team to a poor finish. A disappointing return as both let their team down throughout the round. Must do better lads.

Taking home the spoils this year was the birthday boy Chris Lightfoot as he dragged his team of Gerard Harkins, David Siddons and our ever popular Club Captain, Dougie Wilson, to a somewhat unpopular victory.

Congrats Chris and Happy Birthday from all at the Whinhill.

Results;

1st - Chris Lightfoot, Gerard Harkins, David Siddons and Dougie Wilson

2nd - James/Jamie/Jim Smith, Stephen Cowan, Craig Pearson and Gary Sinnamon

3rd - Alan McCabe, Ryan McAulay, Paul Kavanagh and Steven McEwan

Thanks as always to Kerry for running the bar on Boxing Day to allow us to play.

🏆 Whinhill Trophy - Gents Open Results 🏆

Our 2025 Gents Open was held on Saturday 2nd August in fine scoring conditions, as for a change, the weather was kind to us.

We had a great turnout for the event, with 133 golfers from 16 different clubs competing for the trophy.

The eventual winner of the trophy, was former member and club champion of the Whinhill, Paul Jones of Largs Golf Club, who returned a magnificent scratch score of 64 for a nett 62, edging out another former member, John McLennan, by virtue of BIH.

Two excellent rounds of golf, both worthy of winning any competition. Congratulations to Jonesy and commiserations to John, a great effort.
