Theta Club

Theta Club Theta Club is a small not for profit sailing club that has been running for nearly 80 years.

We spend the week sleeping in bunk beds on our house boat which is permanently moored on the picturesque River Ant in Thurne. We operate as a large family in which everyone is responsible for cooking, cleaning, and general maintenance of the boats and our grounds. Every morning we load up the boats with balls, a picnic, a paddle, pull up the sails and set off to various destinations around the Broads - an excellent place to sail for people of all abilities.

Please note:
- Ordinaries weeks are organised more casually than our infants weeks. Just get in touch with us via any contact you have - facebook, email, or if you have any of our personal contacts - to let us know your plans (no booking form needed). Ordinaries sessions are priced at £20 a day.
- The maintenance weeks (usually for those over the age of 16) are focused solely on maintenance and is therefore free of charge. Maintenance plans have been discussed at our AGM (thanks to all who attended, was a great turnout!) - more info to follow.
- Mordinaries weeks are a combination of ordinaries and maintenance - a bit of sailing, a bit of maintenance.

Please get in touch with any queries. See the infants TROG (trip organiser) email in the circular.

Looking forward to seeing you on the sunny broads later this year!

Much love,
Theta Club

A few Thetans were so eager they decided to brave what is known as an Icicle Week last month. This was the first of its kind in years!

Hey all,

I hope everyone is doing well. Quick update on our boat park project. It has been parked... well we are currently trying to work out how is best to remake the boat park.

With current wood costs we think the wood requirement would be more money than we have in the bank, even after the money coming in from infants weeks. We also feel this isn't the only option.

Another idea we have a lot of interest in is dredging into a new wooden frame to build a solid bank with a new wooden ramp. We think this will be a better solution and much more cost effective. However it needs planning and so we are trying to work with the Charlie to how we can do this.

We have all summer to sort out this situation so we really aren't worried, but it is a shame that we haven't organised an ALM week yet for everyone to come help and hang out. Either way we are all keen to try do one this year, maybe it will be more likely as a post summer holidays weekend rather than pre.

Not masses of progress to share, just wanted to keep you all update on our thoughts and make sure you guys know how much we appreciate the support you all give!

Summer weeks coming soon, tell all your friends to book their kids ASAP as the more the merrier!

Love TC x

That's a wrap on the Maintenace/Regatta weekend. Lots of fun and games, lots of work, mainly taking the old boat park to pieces but also some fixing. Some of the wood was harvested (that wasn't rotten) and used to fix the main piling which was super useful. We have had our friend in Thurne Nick come take a look and give some advice, we are also talking with Charlie about how to proceed.

Plans will be made when us members can find time and then we will let you all know. It is most likely to be mid July and for some members a full week, others (like me!) just a weekend. We will fill you all in as it would be lovely to have some faces there, listen to your old stories and most importantly play some games!

Most of the rotten wood was burnt in two epic bonfires, both only ended due to the sunrise...

Take care, lots of love

TC

03/06/2022

Hey all,

As some recent members and current members know our boat park is a wreck. We have a team of members up this weekend to take apart the structure, around 70% is completely rotten and needs replacing. In mid July we will start the replacement but it will most likely take us all summer in several sittings to get it done. When we have decided the first week we attempt, it will be open to any ALMs that want to return to the club and help out, any skill level is welcome even if its just making tea! We also have some money banked but we are going to be scraping every crumb of cash to get this done, luckily we have a fair few infants this year which yields some more money to work with.

We will keep you all updated with progress and please reach out if you have advice or want to get involved!

Much love,

TC
