I wanted to get huge bulging triceps like Bill Pearl so started doing heavy free weight overhead triceps extensions. Turns out I did not get huge bulging triceps like Bill Pearl, I got tendinitis instead. I guess they’re just not for me. Anyway, a couple of weeks of higher reps, lots of warming up and eccentrics and it’s 80% gone. Will be back to full weights in a week or so. Amazing what lots of good nutrition and not training like an idiot can do. High reps are always extremely safe and effective for me but I get tempted back to the dark side of lifting heavy because it looks and feels cooler.

Some back training tips 👇
1. Train the erectors. Prioritise the spinal erectors to the same degree as lats or traps. They improve the presence and thickness of the back. Romanian deadlifts for sets of 5-10 and slow negatives are a good option.
2. Connection. It’s possible on compound pulling exercises to overuse the arms and shoulders while the back muscles stay relatively inactive. When performing rows and pulldowns, get better at squeezing and feeling the muscles working. Try a cable straight arm pullover with slow tempo and 100% focus on engaging the lats.
3. Volume. In my experience the back can handle and adapt to a lot of work. Very high volumes on pecs or arms can lead to joint issues whereas traps and lats can handle a far greater number of sets before any issues happen. Traps especially can be trained with and benefit from 20+ sets per week with very low risk.

2 months post show > 4 months pre show.
After the shows in 2021 I was so starved I just binged like mad after. Lost muscle from dieting and gained fat from bingeing. Worst of both worlds. Also felt a bit lost training wise. Needed a goal but didn’t want to compete again for a while.
Now I’m competing later in the year this year I feel much more motivated to train effectively. A strong enough why can bear any how as they say.
First thing is getting a goal or a vision. Everything else follows from that. If you know what you want and frame it clearly enough you’ll find a way to get it.

B12 on the higher end of normal after being pretty sporadic with supplementation (I recommend being consistent with B12 especially)
Inflammation very low, cholesterol, magnesium, vitamin D and Iron all optimal.
It’s a good idea to get your blood tested every so often, especially being vegan for a long time.

Sometimes it’s best to ignore your feelings and just crack on doing what you know you need to do.
It’s ok or even necessary to spend time doing things you’re scared or hate to do.
