🎾 Tennis Tip Thursday 🎾

A key skill when dealing with a deep ball is learning how to get back behind it and give yourself enough time to prepare.

βœ… Split step early to react quickly.
βœ… Turn your shoulders as you move back to create a strong unit turn.
βœ… Get the racket back early so you’re fully prepared before the ball arrives.
βœ… When pushed deeper in the court, look to add more height over the net to increase your margin for error and help recover your court position.

Good preparation leads to better balance, cleaner contact, and more consistent shot-making under pressure.

πŸ’‘ Remember: Don’t rush the swing and focus on getting into position early and giving yourself the best chance to play an effective shot.

Yesterday our green team took to the courts in their latest Halstead and District league match against a strong Wickham Bishops side.

With some great play on all sides, the team came away with a super impressive 5-1 victory.

Yet again it was a pleasure watching them and can see the huge improvements in all of them. Their confidence has increased in every aspect and as always the respect they have for the opposition and each other is incredible.

Well played Finn, Lauren, Hudson and Hamish!

Make Your Warm-Up Fun!

A great tennis session starts before the first ball is hit.

Instead of jumping straight into drills, add a fun, energetic warm-up that gets the blood flowing, raises the heart rate, and puts players in a positive mindset. When players are engaged and enjoying themselves from the start, they’re more focused, more energetic, and ready to learn.

The news of Serena Williams returning is incredible and with that I’m pleased to announce that she has been awarded a wildcard for the mixed doubles competition!
Apologies to all my lessons for Wimbledon as I won’t be available as I will be carrying my partner to the title and will be back mid July!
Surely with a grand slam title under my belt it’s worth people booking in with me for lessons?!!
Serena is working hard on the practice court and can’t wait to get started!

Looking for a fun way to get players moving, thinking, and competing from the very start of a session?

Try Noughts & Crosses!

πŸ”Ή Set up 9 hoops in a 3x3 grid
πŸ”Ή Split players into two teams (cones vs balls, or different coloured cones)
πŸ”Ή One player at a time races out to place their marker in a hoop before sprinting back and tagging the next teammate
πŸ”Ή First team to make a line of 3 wins!

Tennis Tip Thursday 🎾

Today’s focus: staying low through the entire movement, not just at setup.

A lot of players start with good posture and knee bend… then rise up before contact. This drill trains you to maintain your shape all the way into the shot.

βœ… On the forehand side:
Pick up the ball, move while staying low, hit the forehand, return to the cone, replace the ball, and repeat without losing posture.

βœ… On the backhand side:
β€’ No ball in hand = topspin two-handed backhand
β€’ Ball in hand = backhand slice

The goal is simple: keep the lower body engaged, stay balanced, and complete 10 reps in a row without standing up early.

This one burns the legs πŸ”₯ but builds a stronger base, better balance, and cleaner movement into every shot.

Low center of gravity = better control and more consistent ball striking.
