The countdown is on to one of the highlights of the Budworth open meeting calendar!

On Sunday 21st June, Budworth Sailing Club will once again host the ILCA Northern Grand Prix, bringing together sailors from across the region for a fantastic day of competitive racing on the Mere.

With strong turnouts in recent years, this event has become a firm favourite on the Northern circuit, combining great racing, excellent race management, and Budworth's renowned hospitality.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the GP14 Open Meeting at Budworth Sailing Club. With competitive racing, great camaraderie and fantastic support from competitors and volunteers alike, it was a superb day on the water.

⛵ Budworth SC GP14 Open – What a Day! ⛵

What a fantastic day of racing at the Budworth SC GP14 Open! With 31 boats on the start line, competitors were treated to three highly competitive races in near-perfect sailing conditions.

The race team certainly earned their supper, managing a large and enthusiastic fleet through multiple recalls, shifting winds and some incredibly close racing throughout the day. Their efforts ensured fair and exciting competition from start to finish.

A huge thank you also goes to the galley team, who kept sailors, volunteers and supporters well fuelled and ready for action all day long.

Congratulations to Fin Waterhouse and Matthew Baird, who secured the overall victory with an impressive performance, with two race wins.

Finally, special thanks to Paul Donnelly for capturing the event from above with some stunning drone photography that perfectly showcased the scale and spectacle of the fleet on Budworth Water.

Thank you to everyone who travelled, raced, volunteered and supported the event. Days like this are what club sailing is all about!

⛵☀️ Wednesday Night Sailing Doesn't Get Much Better Than This! ☀️⛵

This week's midweek racing series delivered perfect sailing conditions on the Mere. A steady breeze, warm sunshine, and a stunning display of colours across the sky combined to create one of those magical Budworth evenings that remind us why we love sailing here.

With the fleet enjoying close racing and beautiful conditions from start to finish, it was a night to remember both on and off the water.

Sunday mornings at Budworth are all about the next generation of sailors!

Our junior training sessions are run by a fantastic team of volunteer coaches, helping young sailors build confidence, learn new skills, and enjoy their time on the water.

From learning how to rig their boats correctly on shore to getting out sailing in the club’s Toppers (or their own boats), these sessions are the perfect foundation for progressing into racing, both at Budworth and beyond.

It’s great to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork, and progress each week... the future of sailing at Budworth is looking very bright! ☀️⛵

⛵🤖 RC Fleet Racing Heats Up at Budworth! 🤖⛵

The Budworth RC sailing fleet continues to impress in its first trial year, with another great day of close racing on the Mere!

The competition was as tight as ever, with a fantastic course set along the jetties keeping everyone on their toes... and their eyesight sharp at the windward mark!

💨 Gusty conditions pushed boats to the limit, with plenty of action both before and after a well-earned (and celebratory!) lunch marking 10th week racing of BSC DF racing 🥂

Even with smaller rigs in the afternoon, the breeze kept things lively with fast downwinds, dramatic moments, and plenty of smiles all round.

Honours were shared across the fleet, proving that with a bit of practice, anyone can be right at the front.

⛵🔥 Midweek Racing in Full Swing! 🔥⛵

What a night on the water last week, with the best turnout so far this series! 🙌
We saw 17 boats in the Handicap fleet and another 6 in the ILCA fleet, making for some busy start lines and fantastic racing and a great atmosphere both on and off the water.

At the top of the Handicap standings after 8 races so far, it’s incredibly tight:
🏁 Bill Kenyon’s GP14 and Ali Cormack’s Snipe are level on points
🥉 Ben Ditchburn’s Snipe sits just behind in third
With racing this close, every start, shift and mark rounding counts...and there’s plenty more to come as the series unfolds.

Great racing, great turnout, great club spirit followed by a delicious cooked meal from the galley... this is what midweek sailing at Budworth is all about! 💨⛵
