Sustainability and Waste Reduction Initiatives Continue...Grasmere Sports is continuing its efforts to reduce waste and improve sustainability. For 2026 we will be installing a water bottle filling station so that visitors and competitors can refill their own bottles as often as necessary without the need for any single use plastic bottles. We began reducing our use of plastic containers last year but are moving forward for 2026....

New Year’s Message from Hal Bagot, John Hibbert, Paul Abbott

Grasmere Sports has been going strong for 175 years. We have weathered COVID, two World Wars, and (most importantly) the gradual erosion of the Lake District community, as family homes have been turned into holiday lets. The most recent 2025 Sports was a very cheerful event. It was well-attended and successful. But we want to continue growing, to encourage more people to enjoy our spectacular landscape and sports....

Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show is gearing up to entertain crowds with its unique blend of culture and traditional Lakeland sports, as well as the new event of the Hike and Fly paraglide race, on Sunday, August 24. It is also presenting first-time visitors with a sport that boasts a few ‘layers’ and which is one they may never have seen before....

At Grasmere Sports we love to meet all our canine visitors, we are very dog friendly - dogs are allowed on the field and in all the various marquees. Many of the dogs take part in our fun dog show. Reg Gifford started the show and not only organised it but judged some of the classes. He passed the baton over after many years’ service not only to the dog show but as a director of the sports. ...

Grasmere Sports and Show is famous for showcasing the best of Lake District sports. What you may not know is that, over 170 years ago, the Sports and Show began as a sheep show with farmers and shepherds competing for wrestling and running prizes once the business of the day was complete. This year, along with the great sports, food, trade and craft stands, we also have representatives from our agricultural community who will demonstrate what they do to ensure that we all have good food on our plates and a beautiful environment to enjoy....

A 16-year-old athlete from Little Langdale will be chomping at the bit to try to break a 50-year-old record at Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show, on Sunday August 24, having wisely invested our Grasmere Sports bursary support money won one year ago. Zeke Sumner, a member of Ambleside Athletics Club, was the recipient of Grasmere Sports’ Pete Bland bursary, winning £500 to help him with his athletics development....
