This year’s event returns with an exceptionally strong line-up, featuring a deep field of English talent alongside international opposition. GM Gawain Maroroa Jones leads the globe-spanning pack as he looks to claim his first Isle of Wight title. Standing in his way is England’s youngest-ever Grandmaster, Shreyas Royal, who will be keen to make his mark.
GM Matthew Wadsworth returns to the Isle following his joint first-place finish in 2025, while GM Daniel Gormally, the current UK Blitz Champion, will be aiming to convert that form into classical success. IM Peter Roberson returns to the event after narrowly missing out at the British Championships playoffs, and IM Alex Golding arrives in strong form following recent success at Hastings.
The tournament also showcases many of the leading English juniors, including FM Stanley Badacsonyi, FM Jude Shearsby, and newly titled FM Theo Khoury. With over 30 federations represented and norm opportunities on offer, competition is fierce throughout the field, and the established stars can expect plenty of challenges from the next generation.
