Coastal Forces Monument Appeal Crowdfunding event – Hornet Past and Present

Hi Everyone, The Coastal Forces Crowdfunding site opened for business this morning.
Please follow this link to the Hornet Past and Present page: https://www.charityextra.com/coastal_forces_appeal/hnt
You know what to do!
There are some interesting videos and clips on the site – including interviews with Andrew Marr and a 6 minute film about the project.
There’s a FREE TALK at the Night Hunters Exhibition tomorrow!

Coastal Forces have an astonishing record of service over the past century – largely untold. For the most part, this is a ‘wartime only’ affair, involving Volunteer reservists. The average age of the crews was just 21 – not that different from Kingfisher. They sailed in small wooden ships, loaded with petrol and ammunition; running at speed of 40 knots in the dark, engaging the enemy at ranges similar to the soldiers in the trenches on the Somme. A very small branch, they won 3000 gallantry awards, including four VCs, more per capita than any other branch of the Navy.

Their relevance today, as Governments wonder about what to do in the Straits of Hormuz, is undiminished.

Coastal Forces Monument Appeal Crowdfunding event – Hornet Past and Present
The Coastal Forces Monument Appeal Crowdfunding weekend kicks off tomorrow. As the spiritual home of Coastal Forces, this will mean a lot to many Hornet members past and present, as well as the families of those men and women who served here between 1915 and 1957.
Quite apart from the Coastal Forces Memorial, our unique clubhouse and much of the infrastructure, the ethos lives on with JSASTC and the club itself – after all, many of the Coastal Forces crews were accomplished amateur yachtsmen.
Construction of the Monument is underway – the boat and waves are being put together at the Elephant Boatyard in Bursledon.

Tomorrow we will be sharing a link to the Crowdfunding website, where you can see a full version of the inspiring video that has been produced, and DONATE. All donations from a couple of quid to a few thousand, will be DOUBLED during the weekend up to a grand total of £100,000.
