This week is Drowning Prevention Week, an important awareness campaign led by RLSS UK, and at Aqua Academy we’ll be running water safety-themed lessons throughout the week in support.
Looking back at the recent bank holiday and half-term break, the warm weather brought many families to the water. Tragically, reports suggest that at least 15 people lost their lives to drowning, many in open water environments such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs and the sea.
Learning to swim is a life-saving skill, but water safety education is just as important. Understanding the dangers of currents, rip tides, cold water shock and unfamiliar environments can help prevent accidents before they happen.
From a young age, children can begin developing essential water confidence through safe, shallow-water play. Exploring breath control, balance, buoyancy, floating and rotation helps build skills that could one day save a life.
At Aqua Academy, water safety is woven into every lesson because we believe every child deserves the knowledge and confidence to enjoy water safely.
