This weekend, TEGS lost one of our larger than life members. Long time stallwart of our monthly events and tours, ALEC LUMB was taken far too soon. Our thoughts are with Sharon and all of Alec’s family and friends.

Alec loved nothing more than watching his beloved Pompey and it therefore seems fitting that Alec’s sad passing took place at Fratton Park just before Pompey took on Middlesbrough. It will have brought a smile to his face, listening to both sets of fans warmly applauding as Alec left the stands for a final time.

Unasumming and a true gent who had a full career in the Royal Navy - POWtr (submariner). Thank you for your service! Stand down, your watch is done; fair winds and calm seas - RIP

45 years ago to this very day, I walked through the gates of HMS Raleigh to begin a Royal Navy career that lasted over 3 decades. Thanks to everyone who helped shape that career. Would I do it again? Hell Yes!

Long time HMS Sultan GS & TEGS member Roger Bessant hangs up his society golf shoes…..

TEGS were delighted to host Roger at our latest event at Lee-on-the-Solent GC on Tuesday 18th April, allowing many members to say a final farewell and to wish Roger all the very best for the future.

A true character, Roger exemplifies the love of playing golf for reasons other than being able to hit that raking 250 yard 2 iron time and time again (we all wish). Many years spent tussling for the proverbial (and actual) wooden spoon, his enjoyment of the game has never dulled; testament to the afore mentioned character.

Often will a story be overheard, snippets telling of an old guy seen coming out of the trees, carrying his trolley (bag and all), and the listener will interject, stating, “I know him, that’s Roger Bessant”.

You’ll be missed Roger (especially the nutty bars), but you’re always welcome back.
