We are looking at running a BHS stage 3/4 care course in the evenings once a month over a 6 month period with the wonderful Mike Whippey (BHSI and UKCC level 4 coach)

They’d run at 5-7pm.

❤️BHS Stage 1 & 2 Training❤️

We are thrilled to be offering BHS Stage training again at SNEC! These dates are designed to help anyone who is keen to learn more about horse care, or progress to sit BHS assessments.

🗓Dates: 3rd March, 10th March, 17th March, 24th March
⏰Times: 10am-3pm
💸Cost: £60/day

👉The Stage 1 training will be centred around each individual, their experience and what they need to work on. Great for those just wanting to learn more, even if the aim isn't to sit BHS Exams. Plenty of hands on experience and assistance.

👉Stage 2 training will be slightly more specific so if you're looking to cover it all, or just a couple of sections, you can choose the sessions that suit you.

3rd March: Roles & Responsibilities, Tacking Up, Behaviour

10th March: Travel & Presentation, Feeding, Lunging

17th March: Anatomy, Fitness & Health, Lunging

24th March: Tacking Up, Feet, Environment

BHS Stage 4 & 5 Care & Lunge/Long Rein Training Day at the Scottish Equestrian Hotel
Tuesday 28 April 2026.

A fully interactive practical training day led by Dan Spencer BHSI, Senior Assessor. This day will cover some of the subjects found within both the BHS Stage 4 Care and the Care & Welfare section of the BHSI.

The morning session will be focussed on the care then the afternoon will cover the lunging and long reining.

Lunch is included.

6 CPD points for BHS Accredited Professional Coaches.

Spaces are limited to allow for discussion, questions and input from all attendees.

If you wish to be involved practically with the lunging or long reining please book in for it when you book the day.

Daylight hours are getting longer ⛅️ but gosh it’s raw 🥶

👀we are looking for people interested in learning about horse care.

We have two great courses and coaches organised and ready to start Thursday 5th February 1830hrs at The Drum, Gilmerton.

Closing date Tuesday 3rd Feb at midday.

Course 1, with Belinda Northcott Equestrian Coaching
For anyone wanting to start learning about horse care. Maybe you have ridden at riding schools but would like to learn about what’s involved in looking after or owning horses. Maybe you’re a parent/ guardian of someone who is pony mad. May be you have helped look after horses but would like a bit more information. Maybe you are starting your professional career. This course is for you 🙂

Course 2, with Braefield Equestrian Training- with Caroline Wilson
For anyone involved with horses. Perhaps you have your own or are working toward professional qualifications. This course is for you 🙂 The course is based on the BHS stage 2 care syllabus. Some of the topics covered:
Roles, Rights and Responsibilities
Behaviour
Feeding
Anatomy
Fitness
Health
Trimming
Foot care
Environment

Both Caroline and Belinda are experienced British Horse Society and Pony Club coaches. They like to deliver encouraging courses for people to come along and learn in a welcoming environment.

If you are, or you know of anyone who would be interested in either of the above courses please get in touch and get booked on.

Recommended minimum age of 16 years.

These courses are open to anyone keen to learn. They provide a welcoming environment with knowledgable coaches where you can ask questions, and discuss topics within a small group. Tea, coffee and biscuits included.

The day will offer participants to coach and to develop their coaching skills at their own level.
It is aimed at individuals working towards the British Horse Society Qualifications Stages 2 to 4 and those looking to develop their own coaching techniques whether focused towards qualifications or purely for continuous professional development.

All coaching sessions will be carried out individually so you will have constructive feedback from Richard Johnston-Smith that you can take away and work on to develop your own coaching style.
