A disappointing day at the office as we were comprehensively beaten by Ryhill & Havercroft Cricket Club

The skipper won the toss and asked the hosts to have a bat on what looked a green seamer. Although the wickets weren’t coming, the hosts were 65-0 after 20 and the game firmly in the balance. Some tight bowling from opener Liam Gale made a difference - he was unlucky to go wicketless, finishing 0/20 from his seven with two maidens.

It wasn’t until the introduction of Liam Longfield that the Eagles made the breakthrough, with a sharp stumping from Callum Tyson taking the score to 68-1. Longfield eventually finished 1/32 from his seven.

Callum Maxwell toiled hard through the middle overs and was also unlucky to finish wicketless, finishing 0/21 from his ten with another 2 maidens. Jack Blunt came back for a second spell and found some pace and also a wicket, as he finished 1/31 from his seven.

That was it for the wickets column as the hosts piled on the runs and finished 185/2 from their 40.

The chase started poorly, with some early wickets leaving Boro flailing at 23/3. Callum Tyson came in number three and showed some stubbornness, building a solid partnership of 36 with his brother Scott. He eventually fell for 14 with the score 59/4. Callum Maxwell also showed some grit and eventually fell for 15 as the score moved to 87/5. Only the skipper Scott Tyson continued to motor on as the remaining wickets tumbled around him. He finished 58* featuring eight fours. The Boro innings eventually petered out to 123/8 from our 40.

A disappointing defeat over the weekend as we were beaten by top side Notton CC

Despite the relentless rain on Saturday morning, the home side did well to cover the wicket and we did well to get going just after 1pm. The skipper won the toss and elected to bowl with some cloud still hanging around.

Liam Gale and Steve Hall opened up with the ball and looked good, as both found an early wicket with the score 9/2. The game then swung in Notton’s favour as they found regular big partnerships, with their two danger men Kapp (44) and Barnsley (78) doing some damage in the middle overs. This was despite the best efforts of Kris Cooper and Callum Maxwell who both toiled hard for a wicket apiece.

Liam Longfield found some spin and was ably supported by Liam Gale for his second spell, with both finding a couple of wickets apiece as the Notton innings finished on an above par 196/7 from their 40.

The Boro response started poorly as Notton found an early wicket with the score 8/1. Despite some starts with the bat - Callum Tyson (18), Scott Tyson (17), Callum Maxwell (16) & Cam Cooper (13) the Eagles innings could never really get going. Only Glen Bott (34 from 73) had any real staying power and was unable to find anyone to stick with him. The Eagles innings eventually ended with a valiant effort of 141 all out, 55 runs short of the target.

We still picked up four points despite the loss for a battling effort with bat and ball.

Liam Longfield was MoM for his 2/33 with the ball and handy 10 runs with the bat.

A return to winning ways yesterday with a comprehensive win against top side Knottingley Town Cricket Club

On a red hot day in Knottla, we lost the toss and were asked to have a bat. Openers Glen Bott & Dan Wright were happy to oblige and made hay in the sun with an opening partnership of 61. Wright eventually fell for 37 featuring 7 boundaries. Skipper Scott Tyson met Bott in the middle and wasted no time, making a quick fire run a ball 26 featuring another 4 boundaries. The two making another 50 partnership to take the score to 125-3.

It wouldn’t be a Saturday aft without a Boro collapse as we went from 138-4 to 169-8. Bott kept a calm head as the wickets tumbled, eventually falling for a patient 59 including 6 fours. Krissy Cooper & Brad Brown steadied the ship late on, completing the 40 overs as the eagles finished on a solid 179/8.

The lads wasted no time with the ball in response as there were dot balls galore. Liam Gale was unplayable as he went for only 4 runs from his six overs, including 5 maidens and picking up a wicket. Brad Brown was equally impressive, with 4 of his seven overs maidens and picking up 1/14. Krissy Cooper finished 3/16 from his 7, with another 4 maidens in the process.

It was however man in form Callum Maxwell who did the damage, finishing 5/28 from his 9 and taking his third 5 for in Eagles colours. Glen Bott ably backed him up with the gloves, taking four victims as they both made light work of the Knottla batting lineup - the innings finishing 69 all out, as we picked up maximum points.

Glen Bott was MoM for an impressive display with bat and gloves.
