What’s not to like as Head of Cricket Kevin Clement enjoys the ambience of Hemingford Park this evening during a slight lull in the heatwave.

A good night for the Under 15s who beat Hemingford by 87 runs. Skipper Kyrin Gibbins set the pace hitting 42 in his team’s impressive score of 185 for 4. 80 runs came off the last six overs with big hitting from Zac Graveling (38 not out off 33 balls) and Jack Parker (35 not out off 17 balls) while sharing an unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 87.

Facing a tough task, Hemingford were unable to make much progress against Godmanchester’s nine bowlers and finished on 98 for 9. Wickets were shared with Graveling (2 for 5), Christopher Plummer-Coles (2 for 16) and Tommy Kidman (2 for 16) the pick.

UNDER 13s HUNTINGDONSHIRE ECB CUP CHAMPIONS

A fantastic performance in the field with the ball and then the bat saw the Club’s Under 13 team cruise to an 8 wickets win against Peterborough Town at Buckden this evening.

Hayden Edwards (3 for 14) bowled Peterborough’s opener second ball and proceeded to dismiss their other opener and the number four bat. Other bowlers chipped away with skipper Jeremy Cutworth taking 2 for 12 as the opposition were bowled out for 94.

Openers Freddie Wood (10) and Archie Langford (33 retired not out) put on a fast opening wicket stand of 32, Cutworth hit 15 and Edwards with a swift unbeaten 17 took Godmanchester to victory in just 10.2 overs.

The team’s reward for winning the county final is a match against the Cambridgeshire winners in the ECB last 32 at home on Sunday 12th July.

A great win for the Women’s softball side in their first home match of the season against Newborough. On a scorching afternoon at The Parks the home side were invited to bat and reached an impressive 295 for 4. After the loss of three early wickets, Helen Boyle (17) top scored and was supported by Antonia King (13), Hannah Longley (10) and skipper Megan Jennings (10).

Newborough got off to a fast start and were 234 for 0 after four overs. Selina Davenport (3 for 15) changed the course of the match with two wickets in successive deliveries and after that wickets fell at regular intervals. Vicky Shivers (2 for 25) hit the stumps twice in the same over and there were brilliant catches from Shivers, Davenport and Boyle, the latter inevitably off her own bowling. A classy run out from a King/Davenport combination sealed the Newborough innings at 261 for 9 to give Godmanchester a 34 runs win.

Godmanchester were represented by Megan Jennings Victoria Shivers Hannah Longley Helen Marie Abigail Sofia Hucklesby Antonia King Selina Davenport and Han Rose - a big thank you to Alex and Cecilia Hucklesby for scoring. Also to Newborough Cricket Club women’s side for their great sportsmanship and wonderful travelling support!

SATURDAY 2NDS BEAT LEAGUE LEADERS AND SUNDAY SIDE CONTINUE THEIR ERRATIC SEASON
Needingworth came to The Parks at the top of CCA Junior West Division 3 and went away on the receiving end of a comprehensive defeat. GTCC 2nds were indebted to a fine 34 from Alfie Sullivan and some useful lower order runs from Jamie Rice with an unbeaten 16. Even so 142 did not look like a match winning score before 15 year old seam bowlers Sullivan (3 for 13) and Zac Graveling (2 for 8 ) ripped through the Needingworth batting after Rice (1 for 8) had got the key wicket of Reuan Williams. They were dismissed for 71 with Paul Swannell (2 for 9) also pouching two slip catches in his first game for over a year.
The Sunday side suffered a 196 run defeat at Milton Keynes Warriors 2nds a fortnight ago. The home side dominated with bat and ball hitting 236 for 2 and bowling Godmanchester out for just 40. Sullivan with 11 was the only bat to reach double figures.
Another long trip into the Bedfordshire countryside last Sunday saw the Sunday side record a 58 runs victory at Milton Bryan. Debutant Charlie Bligh (44) top scored and there were runs from Monty Green (40), Nathan King (24), Brad Goss (22), Frankie Tester (22) and skipper Eliot Pears (21) in an innings of 188. Goss (4 for 20) tore into the early Milton Bryan batting with Pears (pictured) running out their top scorer for 43 with a direct hit at the bowler’s end. King (2 for 6) wrapped up the home side’s innings for 130.

SATURDAY 1STS CONTINUE THEIR 100% LEAGUE RECORD
Upwood and Blunham were bowled out on consecutive Saturdays for 78 and 75 respectively by the potent 1st XI attack as the team continued their unblemished record.
George Smith (4 for 29) alongside Brad Goss (3 for 16) went through the Upwood batting and they were polished off by Joe Purse (2 for 9). After the loss of three early wickets skipper Matt Anscomb (31 not out) and Purse (20) steadied things for a comfortable 6 wickets victory.
Last Saturday the home side Blunham won the toss and elected to bat. Their collapse from 24 for 0 to 52 for 9 was dramatic with Smith (4 for 29) and Goss (2 for 10) once again excelling. Kian Rice (2 for 18) also bowled well and Blunham were dismissed for 75 with Matt Milner polishing off the innings with 2 for 10.
Smith hit a typically rumbustious 34 before being caught on the long off boundary. Anscomb (11 not out) and Chris Seton-Rogers (18 not out) sealed a very quick seven wickets win with plenty of overs to spare.

A good all round performance saw the Under 13s defeat Nassington in the semi-final of the Huntingdonshire ECB cup at The Parks.
Archie Langford with an unbeaten 33 top scored for the home side as they accumulated 140. Finley Harrison (25), Jeremy Cutworth (22) and Freddie Wood (17) also contributed significantly to the total.
After a steady opening stand, left arm seamer Jack Manly put Nassington on the back foot with 3 for 13. The away team lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 74 by a number of different bowlers with Wood’s leg spin taking 2 for 11.
We will play Peterborough Town in the final of the competition at Buckden CC on Monday 22 June.
