THE FUTURE OF BROOK CRICKET CLUB
But it needs support from everyone.
The future of Brook Cricket Club depends on everyone getting involved, from players, parents and supporters.
The numbers on a Friday night has never been so good, the ages so spread, the mix of girls and boys so even and the quality of coaching and playing so high.
The coaches, Neil, Nick, Matt, Andrew and Alexandrina have put in a lot of effort, building this friendly group, - encouraging, welcoming, making it fun, and as you can see by the concentrated looks on the faces engaging, as they share their love and experience of this wonderful game.
So now it is more important than ever that everyone gets behind the club and gets involved.
The coaches will move on from giving up every Thursday and Friday evening and Sunday as their lives take on different priorities, and there needs to be the structure in place to encourage the follow up coaches, scorers, umpires and support members.
Without that the club will shrink and the senior team will have no players as the trusted players move away or retire (not so) gracefully.
Losing the club would be so sad for one steeped in history, from the great Aussie Don Bradman along with his Aussie team frequenting the Dog and Pheasant on Tour, to Alan and Roy Hardy scoring centuries on a Saturday, celebrating hard in to the night and getting out to do it all again on the Sunday, so ingrained in the local history through to the famous Woodworm Bats brand, used by Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff, that was born on the very same square by Joe Sillet.
So this is a message to everyone who has played, still plays, has an active role in the club, parents and everyone who supports the club, please get behind everyone putting time and effort in, and do what you can to be involved and secure the future, not just of the club but for the lovely girls and boys who deserve the opportunity of playing at this wonderful ground.
