Valkyrie Athletic Performance James Matthews, owner and coach of Valkyrie Athletic Performance and Valkyrie HQ I'm James Matthews, Britain's Strongest U120 and competitive strongman.

Based out of Valkyrie HQ, I offer strongman and strength and conditioning classes, PT and online coaching. I am a certified level 3 personal trainer with a keen interest in strength and conditioning. I have a vast range of experience working with elite level athletes across multiple disciplines, from rugby to strongman. Through utilising my academic knowledge, coaching and personal experience I can help you reach your goals.

Another comp day with the squad 💪

Chuffed with hitting a 90 sn**ch in comp after 2 tough events, lessons learnt with being too conservative and ran out of time (aka I’ve been s**t recently and had little confidence in my sn**ch)

Who knew consistently failing 60% of your 1rm is the way 👀

Proud coach

- Massive Pb’s for Iain Plumb (max clean) and Charlie Lloyd (max overhead)

- I also think all the ladies hit PB’s too in their given lift!

This was just a turn up and have fun comp, 0 pressure and loved it. .fest ran a really smooth comp

Thanks to Chris Thorne putting up with my agro. Dealing with my hissy fits about sn**ching 😂 something must be working!

Safe to say we’re already looking forward to next year.

Getting to compete alongside a bunch of absolute freaks who also happen to be some of my best mates is pretty special. The fact I coach them too makes it even better.

Watching how much every single one of them has improved over the last couple of years. None of us started here. We just kept turning up, putting the work in, pushing each other and trusting the process.

A special mention to my wife… she’s an absolute beast when it comes to fitness. Watching her perform under pressure/ear infection and on antibiotics. The most competitive and driven person I know. Couldn’t be prouder. ❤️

Valkyrie HQ has never just been about workouts. It’s about building people, creating a team/squad that genuinely wants the best for each other, and proving what can happen when everyone buys into the same thing.

A big thanks to Chris Thorne and Praxis Training Systems for getting me to the fittest and most resilient I’ve ever been. It’s been frustrating nursing a long term injury but hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel and the heavy lifting will be back and not just be a cardio queen 😈
