I know you're not really here to learn about me.

How are you?

I'm Matt

Now usually in this part of a Personal Training/Gym page you'll find some garbage about REPS or qualifications, it'll be written in the third person and it'll all be a bit "BLAH BLAH BLAH look at me, I'm so great". The reality is that this is not ABOUT ME. This is about you: Your goals, your dreams, your ambitions.

That's why you're here. You want to

know what I can do to help you get to where you want to be and that's the damn coolest thing ever, so thanks for dropping by! The reality is that a list of qualifications is not going to give you any indication as to whether I can help you.

In fact, anything I write here isn't going to give you the guidance and support you need right now. So I'll stop now.

But I want to try something for me.

Think about what your ultimate health and fitness goal is... write it down.... commit it to paper.

Think about why that goal is important to you.... what it will 'give' you. It could be confidence to be on the beach in a bikini, it could be energy to play with your kids, it could be improvements in your health. Anything.

Think about achieving that goal... think about how you look.... what your energy levels are like.... how you feel physically and mentally.... what people are saying to you after your've achieved it...

Does that feel good? Good!

This is my perplexed face.

It’s hitting that time of year where we inevitably see an uptick in social media posts asking if you want to get ‘beach-body’ ready or summer challenges start.

I find it all kind of depressing as it puts this weird emphasis on needing to look a certain way at a certain time of year.

The external pressure is just plain nonsense and I hate to see this stuff being pushed out year after year.

I was chatting to one of my clients recently about needing to celebrate what are bodies are able to do, rather than what they ‘can’t do’ or what they do or don’t look like.

I’m obviously an advocate for physical activity but I’m also normal human who goes through spells of loving then equally hating exercise.

So I get that with the people I work with, sometimes there will be good weeks, good sessions and other times it’ll just be a bit….. meh.

But most importantly there isn’t an expectation from me that you have to be amazing every day, get to a certain weight or look a certain way.

What there is a realistic approach that, I hope, gently guides you to a place where your relationship with physical training and you improves to the point where you can take it on yourself equipped with the knowledge of how to carry on for the rest of your life.

I had the pleasure of working with Claire for around 3 years and seeing that she completed her 6th (sixth!) 100km continuous walk over the weekend reminded me to repost this chat that we had whilst we trained.
