🤔💩🐛There seems to be plenty of pinworm about at the moment. A tricky one can be identifying between pinworm and roundworm. It helps to have a reference to judge the size, but could you tell the difference? Pinworm are small white worms with a pointy end, usually around 5cm (2 inches) in length while roundworm tend to be much bigger, creamy white in colour and more the shape of a common earthworm.

Hello!

It’s been a while since I wrote on here. We’re missing our friends from UHFS as we move into this next phase of our lives and hope you’re all well.

As many of you will know, we’ve not moved very far from Hascombe - just down the road in fact. Whilst we’re no longer able to provide livery services, Andy is going to be doing more freelance teaching, both riding (flat, jumping, groundwork and stable management) and carriage driving.

If anyone he’s taught would be willing to write a testimonial we would be really grateful if you would please get in touch? Andy’s USP is as always how good he is with nervous riders (and horses) but all perspectives very welcome.

Thanks in advance
Clare & Andy x

Dear former clients and visitors

We’re at the point where we’re looking at everything left at the yard and deciding whether to keep it, sell it, donate it or bin it. If you believe you may have left something at the yard, please get in touch ASAP and us know what it is. Anything left on Saturday morning risks being binned or sold.

Thanks
Clare

Hmmnnn.. I’ve done a drive through KFC on horseback and taken a pony into a pub, and a church (two ponies in fact), but I’ve never washed a horse off on the bathroom!

Definitely worth a visit!

Definitely worth a visit!

Don't forget you can see some of my recent work (including this trio) on display with others from Surrey Art Fairs in the Gallery, Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking RH4 6AA from 26 -31 March (including Good Friday). We're open 10am-5pm every day and I'll be there in person on Tuesday 27 March. I'll have a selection of my work on the walls and for sale throughout. Hope you can make it along if you're in the area.

Why releasing my knee releases my pelvis and allows me to really follow the sitting trot I don’t know. But I’ve never felt such amazing movement from Flic! Jill, PLEASE would you guys move back to the UK? I’ll let you know precisely which geographical area very soon! 😁

Thank you all for your support and friendship over the past twelve years. We’ve loved having you all as clients, suppliers and friends and are grateful for your support.

Sadly our landlord wants to redevelop the place and so we will be closing the yard in a couple of months. For now though it’s business as usual.

We hope you’ll keep in touch.

Thank you
Andy and Clare

Mac’s loose schooling is becoming a weekly feature. If only they were all like that. He follows at my shoulder for a while through various changes of direction, then does a couple of circuits going large before I ask him to come onto a circle and then finally have a little jog trot. I swear he’s more obedient now than when I was riding him! He does look like a polar bear though (the non-muddy bits). Love that old boy.

Why does it never feel quite as good when the trainer isn’t on the ground? I’m hugely lucky in that Andy often supervises me riding Flic and, now he knows I won’t necessarily club him to death, is great at helping us improve. Unfortunately however, whilst we ride the same horse, we have to ride her in two completely different ways - my long body to his mutantly short one; my short legs to his mutantly long ones. His looseness here, my tightness there. It must be hugely difficult teaching someone on your horse, ignoring what you would do and getting them to do something different. Hoping to video each other at the weekend - now that will be interesting.

Have been worried for some time that Mac might be telling me it’s ‘time’. He just stands in the field looking miserable - he’s not even chasing the ponies. He’s now in at night to get some variety in case that helps.

Yesterday I pulled his rug off and took the polar bear up to the manège for some gentle loose schooling. He walked out happily, trotted the long side and popped over the trotting poles (in walk). His walk back to the yard was purposeful and happy.

I think my spoiled pony is not getting enough attention and doesn’t like me riding Flic. Weekly loose schooling here we come x

Two fabulous days of Bertil lessons - a real bonus as I thought he was only with us on Friday. Two riders, one horse, very different things to work on, which makes for fascinating learning experiences. I’m learning to take the handbrake off, Andy needs to learn to put it on a bit more. Rather than our usual passage/ collection I got proper forwards, all by sorting my posture and not applying the handbrake when we went forwards. Now I need to learn to sit to the exceptionally big trot! I really envied Andy’s loose legs and pelvis but once his upper body was in the right place even he had to work at that. I had a sneaky practice this afternoon and even without Bertil’s guiding managed to get yesterday’s forward thinking, non-crabby trot. Very excited to have taken this step.

The more you learn the more you realise you have to learn. 30 years in the saddle and I still feel I’m still in the first chapter of the guide book.
