This aged like fine wine Harry Belchamber

Second/first loser is Harry ‘Bean-Head’ Belchamber ( ). Our very own Treacle feet, standing at an impressive height of 8ft to strike fear into the opponents heart, before the first ball is even bowled! This is until you realise he’s the most injury prone player going. Taking body blows, nail enders and chin shots all from the safe position of fine leg. Putting a lot more body than soul on the line for Goathland CC week in and week out. In all seriousness, he’s come a long way with the team through the years and it wouldn’t be the same atmosphere without him!

Role: intimidation tactic (batter)
If he wasn’t playing cricket: In A&E
Aim for the season: hit Atleast 50 runs

Victory in the Wednesday evening league!

A good turn out for the Rams, butting heads with the Red caps of Glaisdale. Immediately noticing the hard wicket and outfield with some close call injuries during training. The instigator being the notorious Milky (photographed), on his first return since the GCC glory days. The years may have not been kind to him but he’s still kept his fighting spirit (launching balls at batters a yard out).

Being put into field first, we picked up the occasional wickets while conceding to a steady run-rate. Lloydy dropping a catch, Tyler letting a few byes, Simon bowling full-tosses. A classic GCC Wednesday night

The difference was in our batting. Not often have we been viewed as a team to chase. Maybe the ‘Train Model Company’ (TMC) opening partnership put us on the right track for once. Liam putting on 45*, while Mikey joined him with a steady 33. They were enjoying knocking around the pink ball to some questionable fielding placements. All complimented by some enthusiastic DJ’ing in the pavilion from our captain Tom, turning the Esk Valley into the IPL for one night only.

Onto Fridays game against Grosmont!

Better late than never!

GCC took on Ingleby Greenhow at home on Friday, too great success!

Batting first, the Calvert Bros set the tempo. Taking it to the opening bowlers before throwing away their wickets like usual

Simon Fletcher acted as our anchor, steadying the ship in dangerous waters. Escorted by Tyler Simpson and Ashton Williamson. Ash who managed to biff a six over covers and Simon hitting back to back sixes, ultimately getting us over that all important 100 mark.

Our bowling restricted the opposition, as they lost wickets continuously throughout Ben D’s and Aron C’s opening spells. Keeping the visitors to 11runs from 7overs (3 wickets). Before the erratic Zak Lloyd came on to attack the batters, resulting in a nervy end to the match. But we’ll let Zak off because his celebration had IPL qualities to it.

3 points!

Low and behold, the 5th best Calvert. Coming from a cricketing family that has held high standards for many millennial. Standards that have avoided Liam like the plague. Usually seen as mr consistent with his batting abilities, winning the batting award (503 runs (62.88)) last season. Unless he hits a dip in form. Then he’s consistently poor for weeks on end

Liam is one of our own, debuting aged 10, he always showed signs of potential. Famously named by the opposition as :’The Goathland Wall’, ‘Yorkshire Rahul Dravid’, ‘Sunbed’ and ‘bloody hell not this boring lad again’. Always playing the essential anchor role most innings. Adapting his game from 30 runs in 30 overs. Too 50* from 40 overs.

Stepping up last season as secretary, and now joint secretary, Liam is a great clubman who will put any player before his burning need to hit a ton against 75 year old 4th change bowlers. Always encouraging emerging talent as a result of the confidence shown in him from a young age.

Role: Batting all-rounder
If he wasn’t playing cricket: playing cricket elsewhere
Aim for the season: 500+ runs, 20+ wickets

Note from admin - years of half trackers to the face and being slogged into next doors garden has made Liam the player he is today so I guess I somewhat deserve credit

Kicking off our Saturday season with a comprehensive victory over the young opposition - Forge Valley 2nds.

Probably the first time we’ve been the more experienced team statistically, and we definitely showed that with bat and ball.
Going into bat first, we mixed up the order on a tough track. Seeing some promising batting from young Ash (photographed) who spent his cold winter months in fitnessmachine, bulking up for the upcoming season.

The standout performer however was .mfc being a little try hard with ridiculous figures of 4overs, 0runs, 5wickets. Setting high standards for the first week.

There was desire and great enthusiasm from the field which should set the precedent for the season to come. UTG

First up with the player profiles is Captain cow corner, ‘putting the beef in the Beeforth name’. When our Wednesday captain isn’t seen slogging sixes, he’s seen chugging Guineas by the sixes (never working in fours). A great lad who’s commitment to the club is second to none, despite the fact he can’t play on Saturdays (the 40 over format doesn’t fit his style anyway).
Once being unable to hold a bat like his teacher and uncle, . It proves that with the time, effort and right teachers. You can learn the way of the beef

Role: Batting all rounder
if he wasn’t playing cricket: working 😡 (scrappin L*z)
Aim for the season: hit a ton (in 20 overs)
