🇩🇪 *WELCOME BACK, CLAYTON OWEN & ROBERT “WRIGHTY” WRIGHT* 🇩🇪

Glynneath Town FC are absolutely delighted to welcome back two true club legends, Clayton Owen and Robert “Wrighty” Wright.

Both players have given outstanding service to the club over many years, representing the badge with pride, commitment and loyalty across different eras and teams.

Clayton first signed for the club back in 1992 and went on to become one of the most respected and decorated players in Glynneath Town history. A multiple-time Club Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Club Captain, Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and most recently 2024-25 Third Team Player of the Season, Clayton’s record speaks for itself.

Wrighty first signed for the club in 1996 and quickly became known for his unbelievable energy, enthusiasm and commitment. A 2-time Club Captain, 3-time Golden Boot winner, Player of the Year winner, Most Promising Player of the Year winner, Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and someone who helped bring 8 titles/cups back to the club, his contribution has been incredible.

We’re thrilled to see both Clayton and Wrighty back representing The Germans once again, and we’re excited for the role they’ll play in helping guide, support and develop the next generation of Glynneath Town players.

⚽ DUGOUT DIARIES: A TRIBUTE TO TOMMY HALLETT – ONE OF OUR OWN 🤍

From the school fields of Glynneath to captaincy in the Football League – this is the story of a proper football man 📖✨

Tommy Hallett and Alan Wellstead first pulled on their boots together for Glynneath Senior Schoolboys, and their talent quickly caught the eye. Both were selected for Neath Schoolboys for the 1953‑54 season – with Tommy named captain 🧢🏆.

That campaign went down in history! It was the very first time Neath Schoolboys lifted the Welsh Schools Cup 🇼🇸 – an incredible journey seeing them beat Barry, Aberdare, Newport, Wrexham and Cardiff Schoolboys along the way! In the final against Swansea Schoolboys:
✅ First leg: Neath won 1‑0 at Briton Ferry
❌ Second leg: Defeated 3‑2 at the Vetch Field
🤝 Result: Trophy shared between Neath & Swansea Schoolboys – a fair finish to a classic contest!

Both Tommy and Alan were awarded Welsh Schoolboy Caps for that season – a huge honour 🌟.

Still just 15 years old, Tommy turned out for Glynneath Welfare, fresh from winning the Neath & District League Division Two title – proving class is permanent, whatever your age 💪⚽.

Education days were spent at Cwmnedd Secondary Modern School on High Street, Glynneath – until 1968, when Neath Valley schools merged to form Llangatwg Secondary Modern at Cadoxton. The old school building is long gone, but its legacy lives on 📍🏫.

In 1956, Tommy and Alan made the big move north, signing for Leeds United 🟡🔵. Tommy turned professional with Leeds in 1962, making his senior debut before transferring to Swindon Town in 1963 ⚪🔴. From 1966 to 1971 he wore the claret and amber of Bradford City, where he proudly captained the side and led from the heart until hanging up his boots 🧱🦁.

After football, Tommy settled in Bradford, where he still lives today – a piece of Glynneath that travelled far, but never forgot where it began 🤗.

Glynneath Town A.F.C. | A RECORD-BREAKING 32 CONSECUTIVE SEASONS OF DEVOTION! 💛🖤

📅 AN EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY
From day one in 1984–85 when he first signed, Colin poured his heart into this club! He scored his very first goal for the Second Team against Brynamman on 6 October 1984 – the start of something truly special. He stepped up to the First Team in 1988–89, holding his place for an incredible 15 years and proudly captaining the side in 1999–00! Even as the years went by, his passion never faded: 2003–04 saw him named Second Team Player of the Year, before he bravely returned to the First Team for another FIVE fantastic seasons! He swept the board for the Third Team in 2010–11, shone again for the Second Team in 2012–13, and finally hung up his boots after a few final appearances in 2013–14 – a career like no other! 🙌

🧩 A TRUE FOOTBALL GENIUS
What a versatile talent! He started as a sharp forward, even proved a brilliant keeper 🧤 – but it was in midfield where he truly came alive! A masterful playmaker who controlled every game with intelligence and vision, he was always a threat in front of goal, earning countless Golden Boot awards and winning the hearts of fans everywhere! 🎯⚡
