Korfball is a mixed gender team sport, meaning guys and girls play on the same team (4 males and 4 females). It is very similar to both basketball and netball and the aim is to score more goals through t

he 3.5 metre high hoop (aka ‘korf’) than your opponents. Founded in 2007, Gloucester Lions are part of a local league, playing against teams from Bristol to Exeter. Our season runs from September to April, with matches on the weekends. We are always looking for new members to join! Gloucester Lions Korfball Club are open to men and women aged 18+. During the season we train at the University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Campus sports hall every Tuesday from 8:15-9:45pm. During the summer we train for free outdoors on Tuesday’s from 7-8:30pm on Pittville Lawn, Cheltenham. Korfball is a great way to keep fit in a light hearted environment, we also enjoy a post Korfball social at the pub! The sport is easy to pick up and we welcome players of all abilities. Looking for a fun, fast-paced sport to try this summer? Gloucestershire Lions Korfball Club is offering FREE training sessions for anyone interested in giving korfball a go!
Whether you're: ✅ A complete beginner

Korfball is a unique mixed-gender sport that combines teamwork, skill, fitness, and plenty of fun. It's easy to get started and a great way to meet new people while staying active.

Location: Old Richians RFC, Gloucester.
Timings: Registration will open at 9.30am with the first matches starting at 10am.

Korfball is really fun because it’s fast, supportive, and super interactive—you’re constantly passing, moving, and working with teammates, and the mixed-gender setup makes it feel really inclusive and encouraging. Since you can’t just run with the ball or charge through people, it becomes a game of smart plays, quick thinking, and creative teamwork, which keeps matches exciting without being overly rough. It’s easy to learn, surprisingly energizing, and gives everyone a chance to contribute, making it a sport that feels lively and friendly whether you’re playing casually or competitively.
