Today’s TWAM Train With A Member, was with Ellie ( ). Ellie was limited on time, so it was super early and super quick. 5am early!

As time was at a premium, and Ellie wanted an upper body session, it was time for super sets.

Supersets seem to have been bastardised over the past few years, to mean back to back exercises for the same body part.

We did ‘proper’ supersets, back to back exercises for opposing body parts - chest and back. The original rationale behind super sets was;
1. They’re intense.
2. They keep your heart rate up.
3. You can get more done in a shorter period of time.
4. You can’t contract opposing muscles at the same time. So as one muscle is being worked, the other is relaxing.

Pek dek & straight arm pulldown.
Bench press & angled narrow grip pulldown.
Chest press & cable row.

Non stop, 15 min done!

Mark has been training and coaching for over 40 years, you’d be hard pushed to find someone more experienced and knowledgeable than him.

If you want to have a training session with , either collar him in the gym, or DM the gym.

It’s a great opportunity to work on technique, learn new movements, pick Mark’s brain about training and nutrition, or just have a great workout.

These findings are in line with an earlier meta-analysis that found strength training led to “a significant reduction in depressive symptoms”. The recent study adds to the evidence that even people without clinical depression can meaningfully benefit from exercise for their mental health and strength training is a viable form of exercise. Most research so far has focused on depressed individuals and aerobic exercise. The effects of exercise are clinically significant with moderate to large effect sizes.
