Getting back to where you are
There is a profound insight put forward by Lao Tsu and it’s what might be the most profound teaching on happiness.
I’ll get to it shortly but I’ll explain first why some of these Taoist/Zen teachings are so powerful for me.
Put simply the teachings are like lighting bolts designed to destroy the spell of Mara/illusion, to snap us even for a moment out of the hypnosis which is inflicted on to us from birth.
A hypnosis that keeps us suffering, comparing, feeling disconnected to Tao, to God, to life, to the fullness of who we are.
Here is the teaching:
“When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” - Lao Tzu
This is powerful because it cuts straight through the illusion the world has conditioned us to believe in:
That you are not good enough, born in sin, you’ll only be happy when …, your not spiritual enough, enlightened enough, adored enough, wealthy enough…
We give our power away through this to religion, to consumerism, to popularity, to monks and nuns, to a separated ideas of Buddha, God or Nirvana.
But Lao Tsu in this one stroke cuts through this like a knife as it to say ‘Awaken!’ Awaken from your dream of suffering and incompleteness. Stop giving your power away, especially to those who seem to require it.
We have been taught be our religious institutions, our society, our governing bodies to keep small, to hand our sovereignty oven, to believe, to continue to invest in an illusion of less than-ness.
Today.. Arise, awaken, be who you already are and be free.
