π DGU CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND-UP AT CLOBER! π
What a phenomenal few days of competitive golf! We were absolutely delighted to be the host club for the Dumbartonshire Golf Union (DGU) Strokeplay & Matchplay Championships. The standard of golf was incredible across the board, and we had plenty of home success to celebrate!
Here is a look back at how the competitions unfolded:
π₯ Strokeplay Championship
Sunday kicked off with an outstanding performance from our very own Iain MacCalman, who won the Strokeplay Championship over 36 holes! Iain shot a superb 5-under-par 61 in the first round, followed by a 68 in the afternoon to secure a brilliant 3-shot victory.
π‘οΈ The Wylie Trophy
The home success continued as Clober Golf Club took home the Wylie Trophy! This is awarded to the club with the best 3 aggregate scores from the Strokeplay Championship. A massive congratulations to our winning team of Iain MacCalman, Neil Stewart, and Gavin Roger, who posted a fantastic combined score of 395.
ποΈββοΈ Seniors Strokeplay Championship
Also taking place on Sunday was the Seniors Championship. A huge well done to Jim Clark from Helensburgh Golf Club, who claimed the 2026 title after shooting a very fine 70.
βοΈ Matchplay Championship
The players with the top 8 gross scores from Sunday's Strokeplay progressed into the Matchplay knockout stages. After battling it out over Monday and Tuesdayβand navigating a rescheduled final due to the weatherβthe title went to Chris Clark of Bearsden Golf Club. Chris claimed his second title with a dramatic birdie on the 18th green after a very closely fought match against Angus McKay of Clydebank & District.
A massive thank you to the DGU for a great event, and to all the spectators who came out to support the players. Finally, a special note of thanks goes to Head Greenkeeper Clint Maxwell (and his team) for presenting the course in such magnificent condition for the championships.
Congratulations to all the winners! β³π
