Match Report: Woodfarm vs Mearns Western Cup
WDCU Western Cup Pool C, Round 1
Tuesday, 12 May 2026 — Bellahouston Sports Centre
Result: Mearns Western Cup won by 41 runs
Woodfarm Team started their Western Cup campaign with a tough 41-run defeat against Mearns Western Cup, but there were still plenty of positives to take from the game, especially in the bowling and fielding departments.
Mearns won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a target of 140 after finishing on 139/9 from 20 overs. Woodfarm made a brilliant start with the ball and put Mearns under pressure straight away. Zayd Tariq struck early second ball of first over and bowled a very controlled opening spell, finishing with 4 overs, 20 runs, 1 wicket at an economy of just 5.00.
The standout bowler for Woodfarm was Muhammad Faizan, who produced an excellent spell of fast and accurate bowling. He picked up 4 wickets for only 13 runs in 4 overs, with an outstanding economy rate of 3.25. His spell helped Woodfarm keep control of the innings and stopped Mearns from running away with the game.
The fielding effort was also a big positive. Ibrahim Awan had a fantastic match in the field, taking two catches, a great catch on the second ball of the game in the slips and second one in the deep near the boundary ropes and producing a superb run out from the boundary to remove Mearns’ top scorer Sushant Zanjure, who had made 85 from 59 balls. It was one of the key moments of the innings and showed great awareness, speed and accuracy under pressure.
Izaan Jawad also contributed well in the field with two catches, while Afzal Shaikh bowled a useful late spell, taking 2 wickets for 13 runs in 2 overs. Idhant Agraharam also picked up a wicket as Woodfarm kept taking wickets throughout the innings. Mazar was wicket less.
Chasing 140, Woodfarm finished on 98/8 from 20 overs. The team could not build the partnerships needed to put pressure back on Mearns, but the match showed clear signs of promise. The bowlers created chances, the fielding was sharp, and the team stayed in the contest for long periods.
