East Renfrewshire close out season with commanding 54‑Run Victory

East Renfrewshire 1st XI signed off their campaign in style, producing a composed and disciplined performance to defeat Milngavie 1st XI by 54 runs and finish the season on a high.

An unbeaten Aasim Khurshid masterclass of 63 not out provided the backbone of East Renfrewshire’s total of 186. Batting with patience and authority, he guided the innings through key phases and ensured a defendable score was set in front of the visitors.

The standout performer of the day was Abid Fareed, who delivered a superb all‑round display. His fluent 45 with the bat added vital momentum, and he followed it up with a match‑defining spell of 3 for 18, breaking partnerships and tightening the chase just as Milngavie looked to settle.

East Renfrewshire’s bowlers maintained control throughout, restricting Milngavie to 132.

Tariq Shabbir Pti Scotland chipped in with an important 2 for 24, applying pressure at crucial moments.

The collective effort ensured Milngavie never found rhythm, rounding off a complete team performance.

The victory capped off a season filled with commitment, growth and contributions across the squad.

Players, coaches, volunteers and supporters all played their part in driving the club forward.

A special mention goes to groundsman Damian Desilva, whose tireless work in preparing and maintaining the ground has been invaluable. His dedication is deeply appreciated and never goes unnoticed.

A strong finish, a united squad, and plenty of positives to build on. East Renfrewshire head into the off‑season with confidence and momentum. Here’s to an even better campaign next year.

*Captain’s knock sets the tone*

East Renfrewshire 1st XI delivered a ruthless, all‑round performance to overpower Pepe’s St Michael’s by 43 runs, with captain Aqeel Mahmood leading from the front in style in Saturday's Premiership League game.

Aqeel produced a captain’s innings of real authority, smashing a composed yet decisive 65, anchoring the innings and ensuring ERCC posted a competitive total on a tricky surface.

His leadership didn’t stop there, he returned with the ball to claim 3 crucial wickets, breaking partnerships and tightening the noose just when St Michael’s looked to counterpunch.

ERCC bowling unit was relentless, with Muhammad Faizan ripped through the middle order with a superb 4 for 39, striking at key moments.

Abid Fareed delivered a masterclass in control, 8 overs, 19 runs, 2 wickets, suffocating the chase with unwavering discipline.

Their combined pressure restricted St Michael’s to 130 all out, never allowing momentum to build.

This was a win built on clarity, discipline and leadership. ERCC controlled the game from the first ball to the last, showcasing a team growing in confidence and cohesion.

ERCC Awards Ceremony
NH Sports Nazar Hussain (right) was recognised for his outstanding contribution as coach to both the junior and senior cricket teams, as well as for managing local school training programmes that continue to inspire young players.

Damian Desilva Damian De’Silva (left) received the Groundsmanship Excellence Award for his exceptional work maintaining the club grounds throughout the season, ensuring top‑class playing conditions pre‑ and post‑season.

The ceremony took place at Hot World Buffet on Sunday, attended by ERCC committee members.

Both awardees were elated and expressed heartfelt thanks to the club for the appreciation and recognition of their efforts.

🏏 ERCC Annual Family Day 2026 💚

What a fantastic day we had at our annual East Renfrewshire Cricket Club Family Day, held this year in conjunction with our charity partner, the Ruth Strauss Foundation

The day began with a mixed Juniors game, followed by an exciting President’s XI vs ERCC Select XI match.

In between the two games, we celebrated the achievements of our Seniors and Juniors with our annual awards and medal presentation, recognising our winners and presenting medals to all our Juniors. 🏅👏

The day started with some typical Scottish weather 🌧️, but thankfully the clouds cleared and we finished the afternoon/evening with some beautiful sunshine ☀️ — making for a perfect end to a wonderful day.

A huge thank you to all our members, non-members, friends and neighbours who came along and supported us. It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the day and making it such a memorable occasion.

A special thank you to all the food stalls who brought flavours from around the world 🌍🍴 and helped make the day even more enjoyable.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Cllr Andrew Morrison, Cllr Paul Edlin, MP Blair McDougall and Provost Mary Montague for joining us and supporting our Family Day. It was a pleasure to have you with us. 👏

**Fareed's all-round brilliance overpowers Kelburne**

Kelburne, having won the toss, chose to bat first on a lively, grassy ERCC wicket that offered bounce throughout the evening.

Their openers began positively, rotating strike well and punishing anything short. The early momentum was checked when Pashtoon Barak, after a brisk and entertaining 15, fell with the score on 33.

From there, Kelburne’s innings never fully settled. Their top scorer Cameron MacLean held the innings together with a composed 27, guiding his side to a total of 106 from their allotted 20 overs in the WDCU Midweek division 2 league final round.

Only Hassan Nasir (12) and Marjan Nabeel (10) managed to join him in double figures as ERCC Eagles’ disciplined bowling kept the visitors in check.

The Eagles’ attack was spearheaded by Abid Fareed, who delivered a standout spell, finishing with 3 for 20 and consistently troubling the batters with his accuracy and movement off the pitch.

Atiq Ahmed supported well, claiming two wickets at crucial intervals, while Muhammad Faizan and Chandra Manukondu chipped in with one apiece.

The collective effort ensured Kelburne never broke free from the pressure, leaving the Eagles with a modest target to chase.

In reply, ERCC Eagles began cautiously but suffered an early setback when youngster Ibrahim Awan departed for 5 with the score on 25.

Adnan Nadeem looked in good touch and appeared set for a substantial contribution, but after reaching 19 he too fell short of converting his start.

The innings then shifted gears dramatically as Abid Fareed, sent at No.3, took full command of the chase.

His explosive 32 from just 16 balls, featuring four towering sixes, swung the momentum decisively in the Eagles’ favour and electrified the spectators.

Skipper Yaser Awan added a steady 17, ensuring there were no late stumbles as ERCC Eagles maintained control throughout the chase.

The target was reached comfortably in 14.3 overs, sealing a confident victory and extending their impressive winning streak to four matches in a row.

**Ibrahim blasts unbeaten fifty to fire ERCC Eagles to dominant win**

ERCC Eagles produced a composed and professional performance to defeat Milngavie Evening League Team 2 by seven wickets.

Chasing down a target of 120 with maturity and control after a disciplined effort with the ball earlier in the evening.

Milngavie, having won the toss, chose to bat first but struggled to find momentum throughout their innings.

Regular wickets kept them on the back foot, preventing any meaningful partnerships at the top of the order.

Their lower middle order offered resistance, with Mohit Kumar anchoring the innings with a well‑constructed 33 not out, while Shantanu Sharma added a valuable 32. Contributions of 19 apiece from Archit and Manoj helped Milngavie reach a competitive total of 120 in their allotted 20 overs.

ERCC Eagles’ bowlers maintained tight lines throughout, never allowing Milngavie to break free.

The standout moment came from young spinner Izaan Jawad, who claimed two wickets in consecutive deliveries, finishing with an impressive economy of 5.75 runs per over.

He was supported by single wickets from Abid Fareed, Faizan and Afzal Shaikh, ensuring Milngavie never fully settled.

The Eagles’ chase began shakily when keeper‑batsman Aaqib Ahmad fell for a duck in the opening over.

However, the early setback did little to unsettle the side. What followed was a composed and mature batting display led by youngster Ibrahim Awan, whose unbeaten half‑century was the defining performance of the match.

Showing calmness beyond his years, he anchored the innings superbly and guided his team towards victory.

He received steady support from the middle order, with Abid Fareed contributing 20, skipper Yaser Awan adding 22, and Afzal Shaikh finishing unbeaten on 13.

Together, they ensured ERCC Eagles crossed the target comfortably, sealing a seven‑wicket win with overs to spare.

The match showcased ERCC’s growing confidence and balance across departments: disciplined bowling, controlled batting, and a standout individual performance from Ibrahim that underlined his promise.

It was a victory built on composure, teamwork, and timely contributions, hallmarks of a side continuing to strengthen with each outing.

*ERCC Strike Back: A Composed 2‑Wicket Victory Over Glasgow Accies*

East Renfrewshire Cricket Club produced a commanding and emotionally charged performance this weekend, defeating Glasgow Accies by 2 wickets in a composed chase of 175, completing a satisfying act of revenge after last week’s heavy defeat.

Glasgow Accies set 174 in their 50‑over innings, but ERCC’s bowlers and fielders delivered one of their most disciplined and united efforts of the season. The tone was set early: sharp catching, tight lines, and relentless pressure.

Bowling & Fielding: The Foundation of the Win
ERCC’s attack worked as a collective unit, with every bowler contributing at crucial moments.

Adnan Sarwat produced the turning point of the match with a game changing 3‑wicket over, finishing with 4 wickets and breaking the backbone of the Accies innings.

Atiq struck with vital breakthroughs, removing batters just as they looked settled.

Abid Fareed delivered a superbly controlled 10‑over spell, keeping the scoring rate tight and building pressure from one end.

The fielding unit backed the bowlers brilliantly, taking crucial catches that halted Accies’ momentum and ensured they never fully recovered.

A Calm, Composed Chase Under Pressure:
Chasing 175, ERCC showed maturity and patience. Wickets fell, tension rose, but the middle order held firm.

Youngster Zayd anchored the innings with a calm and composed 39, steadying the chase whenever nerves threatened to creep in.

Skipper Zain delivered a true captain’s innings, finishing unbeaten on 33*, guiding ERCC home with authority and composure.

Their partnership ensured the chase remained controlled, sealing victory in 39 overs.
